YOUNGSTOWN

A group of farmers and food producers has opened a retail grocery market on the North Side, two blocks from the Youngstown State University campus.

Located inside Cultivate Cafe at 901 Elm St., the Lake to River Market stocks a variety of fresh foods, pantry items, prepared and frozen foods and snacks.

The market is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Opened as a complement to Lake to River’s weekly online ordering option, laketoriver.org, which allows shoppers to select from a variety of products from local farms, the retail storefront serves the neighborhood and student population.

It offers a selection of products from regional producers and adds everyday items such as toiletries, canned soups, cereal and many vegan, organic and gluten-free items.

The market provides an outlet for local farmers and food makers to sell their products.

Lake to River works to support small-scale, family-run, regionally based sustainable farms and producers and encourages cooperation and mutual aid among farmers to bring fresh, locally grown and produced food and jobs to the community.
