WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS
BASEBALL
Howland 1, Canfield 0
Dylan Beasom’s first-inning single scored Zachary Campbell with the game’s only run and Howland (12-5, 7-1 AAC Red) hung on for the win. Michael Massucci pitched all seven innings, striking out eight, walking none and giving up five hits. Jack Rafoth pitched seven inning for Canfield, allowing just four hits, but the one decisive run. Alex Hernandez went 2-for-3 for the Cardinals (12-4, 5-3 AAC Red).
Boardman 4, Poland 2
Spartans catcher Coleman Stauffer picked a Bulldogs runner off second base with two outs and the bases loaded as Boardman held on to beat Poland. Noah Land (3-1) worked six innings for the win and Jared Wilson pitched the seventh inning for a save. Dom Stilliana and Bobby Mackovick each had two hits for Boardman. Mackovick and Luke Cardillo had doubles. The Spartans scored single runs in the second and third and added two in the top of the seventh for a 4-1 lead before the Bulldogs began their rally in the bottom of the inning. Don Drummond had two hits for Poland.
Austintown Fitch 9, Warren Harding 4
Chris Gerberry, Nick Bianco, Kole Klasic and Jeremiah Papa each had two hits and Cole Constance worked 2 2/3 hitless innings with five strikeouts as the Falcons beat the Raiders in All-American Conference Red action. Gerberry, Klasic, Mike Grazier and Vinny Direnzo each had a double for Fitch (10-9).
Hubbard 2, Lakeside 0
Mason Trinckes pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits, striking out five and walking one in the win. Ryan Love had two hits while Lukas Mosora doubled for Hubbard (16-6, 6-4 AAC White). Love and Mosora each had an RBI as well.
Columbiana 9, South Range 3
Mitch Davidson singled, tripled, walked, scored three runs and drove in two for the Clippers (18-5). Zach Fahs and Chase Franken also had two hits apiece and Keenan Green doubled and drove in two runs. Jake Clark (4-2) got the start and was strong in his five innings of work. Clark gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits while walking just one and striking out 10.
West Branch 4, Marlington 3, 12 innings
T.J. DeShields singled home Seth Schroeder in the bottom of the 12th to snap a tie and give the Warriors (16-6, 8-3 Northeastern Buckeye Conference) a walk-off win in a game continued from last Friday. Josh Stahler had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs for West Branch. Conner Hedrick, DeShields and Schroeder each had two hits. Brock Begue and Travis Weinuskis each had two hits for Marlington (8-9, 6-5). Gino Sabatine worked the first seven innings and Brant Alazaus added four scoreless innings last Friday. Sabatine re-entered the game and worked the top of the 12th for the win.
Springfield 8, United 5
Anthony Ugolini had four hits, including a double, and two RBIs and the Tigers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Golden Eagles. Brandon Walters added three hits, including a double, and Zach Renaldy had two hits. United’s Cade Wood had two hits. Brandon Walters got the win with three innings of relief. He struck out five. Shane Eynon worked the bottom of the seven for a save.
Western Reserve 4, Jackson-Milton 0
Wyatt Larimer threw a complete game, striking out eight and walking none in a win for the Blue Devils (17-3, 8-1 ITCL Blue). Dom Velasquez scored a run and an RBI in the win. Eric Ostrowski pitched just 1 2-3 innings, allowing three earned runs. Noah Laster pitched the final 4 1-3 innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs while striking out nine in the loss for the Bluejays (14-4, 8-1 ITCL Blue).
McDonald 9, Lowellville 2
Joey Sudoll went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in a comfortable win for the Blue Devils. Nick Shiley went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored while Calvin Wolford went 2-for-3 with a run scored as well. Zach Nolf pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits, one earned run and struck out six in the process. Lowellville’s Dom Layko went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the loss.
Edgewood 12, Struthers 6
Struthers led 6-4 heading into the seventh inning before giving up eight runs. This came after the Wildcats scored three runs in the fourth inning to pull ahead. Jake Shaffer knocked home two runs on three hits. Stephen Mistovich and Jared Lazcko each hit a double for Struthers.
Jackson-Milton 1, Western Reserve 0
Sebastion Lay scored the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on Eric Ostrowski’s sac-fly. Lay was also the game’s winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking none. Dom Velasquez gave up just two hits and two walks while taking the loss. Jeep DiCioccio hit a double for Western Reserve.
Girard 8, Jefferson 1
Tyler O’Dell struck out 14 while throwing seven innings for Girard. He also picked up three hits at the plate. Zach Kemp picked up an RBI-single for Jefferson.
Newton Falls 17, East 0
Dylan McAvoy threw a one-hitter for Newton Falls. Adam Honeycutt and Nate Humphrey each hit a double for the Tigers. East’s Dante Hurst had his team’s lone hit.
Warren JFK 9, VASJ 1
Drew Mendik, Greg Valent and Michael Klaben each had two hits for JFK. Mendik threw five shutout innings, giving up five hits and three walks while striking out 12. David Baus had two hits for VASJ.
Sebring 7, Mineral Ridge 4
Kleinman went 2-for-3 at the plate in the win while Taylor Squiric pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs in the loss. Sebring scored two in the fifth and three in the seventh to pull away.
Crestview 12, Valley Christian 0
Dylan Dickey allowed one hit over four innings and struck out in the Rebels’ victory. Dylan Huff pitched a scoreless fifth and struck out two. Caleb Hill doubled twice and scored four runs for Crestview (10-9, 6-2 ITCL) and Tyler Fitzsimmons, Dylan Huff, Brandon Chuey and Jeff Feo each had two hits. Dallen Cook had the only hit Valley Christian.
Newbury 10, Lordstown 0
Kurtis Borsi gave up two hits and a walk while striking out seven for Newbury (5-8, 3-6).
SOFTBALL
Columbiana 1, Mathews 0
Alexis Cross RBI-single in the sixth inning won the game for Columbiana (19-0). Marisa McDonough got the win, giving up six hits and a walk while striking out eight. Nicole Watts gave up a run on five hits and two walks while striking out five for Mathews (15-5). Emily Gosselin hit a double for the Clippers. Watts had two hits for the Mustangs.
Canfield 9, Howland 6
Ally Sammarco, Kaili Gross and Grace Aey each had two hits in Canfield’s win. Gross and Aey each had two RBIs for the Cardinals (14-3, 7-0 AAC Red) while Jenna Gibson also had two RBIs on a double. Sara Price had two singles and an RBI for Howland.
Austintown Fitch 11, Warren Harding 1
Lainie Simons hit a double, a triple and had two RBIs in the win while Kayla Kelty had three singles and two RBIs. McKenzie Luknis had a double, a sac fly and two RBIs while Christina Tucker had two singles and two RBIs for Fitch. Matt Gilroran had a single and scored the lone run for the Raiders.
Champion 26-26, Liberty 0-1
The Golden Flashes swept a doubleheader with McKenzie Zigmont (11-0) pitching a perfect game in Game 1. Allison Smith had two doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. Jackie Mulvain had five RBIs. Mulvain struck out nine to pick up the win in Game 2. Molly Williams had four hits in the nightcap, homering twice and racking up six RBIs. Mulvain had four more RBIs in Game 2.
McDonald 11 Lowellville 0
McDonald (14-0, 9-0 ITCL Blue) clinched their tier of the ITCL crown in dominating fashion. Sam Titus struck out 10 in the five-inning game while Kendra Kelly had two doubles a triple and two RBIs in the win. Hannah Donkers also had two hits, including a double and three RBIs. Isabella and Olivia Sotlar each had one hit for Lowellville.
Western Reserve 3, Jackson-Milton 2, 10 innings
Layla Woolf went all 10 innings, striking out 16 and working around eight walks. Kate Deal had two hits including a double while Morgan Donithan had two singles for the Blue Devils (9-6, 7-2 ITCL). Sierra Pierce had the tough-luck loss, pitching all 10 innings as well for Jackson-Milton (9-9, 5-4 ITCL). She struck out 14 and walked four in the loss. Korie Gross had two singles for the Bluejays.
West Branch 3, Carrollton 0
Kelsey Byers struck out eight and gave up four hits to get the win. Bailey Bylers hit a solo home run and Grace Heath added a triple.
Alliance 8, Salem 3
Salem’s Bailee Thorn went 3-for-3 for the Quakers in defeat. Clara Janofa, Katie Moore and Emma Minamyer were honored on the team’s Senior Night and each collected a hit. Alliance’s Mackenzie Kohl scored two runs and got two RBIs while also striking out three as the game’s winning pitcher.
Hubbard 9-13, Lakeside 0-0
Addy Jarvis gave up three hits, no walks while striking out 18 across both games. She also hit two doubles and got four RBIs for the Eagles. Hanna Kist hit two doubles for a combined three RBIs. Sami Griffith had two hits for Lakeside.
South Range 10, East Palestine 0
Caragyn Yanek and Megan Rossero combined on a six-hit shutout as the Raiders (14-4, 6-1 ITCL) beat the Bulldogs. Yanek worked five innings, scattered four hits and struck out 10. Rossero struck out five and allowed two hits in two innings. Yanek, Hanna Dennison, Madison Weaver and Lydia Baird each had two hits for South Range. Weaver, Baird, Morgan Smith and Codi Taylor each had a double. Taylor Hostetter had two hits for East Palestine.
Springfield 13, United 5
Lindsey Druschel homered, hit a bases-loaded double and added a single in the Tigers’ victory. Druschel drove in four runs and scored twice. Pitcher Josie Applegarth struck out 10 batters and walked none for Springfield (17-2, 4-2 ITCL). Applegarth helped her own cause with two singles and scoring once. Casey Bacon, Taylor Coy and Nikki Bovo each had two hits. Moriah Eisenbraun had three hits, including a triple, for the Golden Eagles. Hannah Mix added two singles and Haley Brieck had a triple.
