A man was arraigned this week in Girard Municipal Court after police arrested him on charges of shooting his friend’s dog.
Louis Kondoleon, 77, of Howland faces charges of improperly handling a firearm and cruelty to a companion animal.
Police responded to reports of shots fired after 8:30 a.m. April 13 at the Timber Ridge apartment complex on Holly Drive in Liberty.
There, they found a large dog bleeding from its mouth.
Kondoleon, who is listed as an employee of the apartment complex, told police the dog belonged to his boss. Kondoleon told police he shot the dog and said he had been trying to euthanize it because the animal had hip dysplasia.
Kondoleon said he shot the dog with a .22-caliber revolver, but was unsuccessful in killing it. He said he then drove to get a bigger gun, according to the report. Police recovered a shotgun from Kondoleon’s truck.
Deputy Dog Warden Greg Miller said the dog was a Rottweiler.
The dog was still alive when it was taken to a veterinarian to be euthanized, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.
