“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Directed by Sam Luptak Jr., Victorian Players Theater, 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, 330-746-5455, 5 p.m. May 7 and 8. The first of the Narnia Chronicles series, “Lion” is considered to be one the finest works of allegorical fantasy. This theatrical adaptation is faithful to the original.

“August: Osage County.” Directed by Matthew Mazuroski. Youngstown Playhouse, Glenwood Avenue, 330-788-8739, 6:30 p.m. May 14 and 15. Call backs will be May 16. Performance cates are Aug. 18-20, 25-27. Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play, Tracy Letts’ darkly comic drama was made into a 2013 film starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. The cast calls for seven women, ranging in age from 14 to 65, and six men, from 37 to 69 years old. A full breakdown of characters is available on the Youngstown Playhouse Facebook page. Those auditioning are encouraged to be ready with a one- to two-minute serio-comic monologue; if one is not prepared, scripts to read will be provided. “August: Osage County” contains adult language and themes, and the play will be performed at the Playhouse without cuts or changes to the script. When the family patriarch mysteriously vanishes, the clan gathers at the family home to simultaneously support and attack one another.
