Franco Harris to speak at the Lake Club

Pittsburgh Steelers legend Franco Harris will be speaking at the Lake Club for the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s 12th Annual Champions Among Us on May 24.
A VIP Meet and Greet for silver or gold sponsorship levels will be at 5:30 p.m. with a 6 p.m. cocktail hour, open bar, dinner and up-close interview with Harris following.

Two local teens in U.S. Hockey nationals
Fletcher Christie, Canfield, and Bo Gray, Boardman, competed in U.S. hockey national championships in April against top teens in the country.
Christie led the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U16 AAA in scoring for the tournament with two goals and an assist. He’s a sophomore at Canfield High School.
After splitting their first two games, Pittsburgh won their final game over Dallas Stars, with Christie scoring a goal and an assist in the win.
Gray, who attends Ursuline High School played in Scottsdale, Ariz. Gray’s Pittsburgh Penguins Elite U15 AAA team went 3-0 before losing in the semifinal round.
YSU women’s tennis set to play Michigan
The Youngstown State women’s tennis team will return to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the 2017 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships.
The Penguins claimed their fourth straight Horizon League title at Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center this past weekend.
The Penguins (16-8) will play 10th-seeded Michigan (21-5) on May 12 at 1 p.m. in Ann Arbor.
That match will follow the first contest of the regional which features Kentucky (16-8) vs. Dartmouth (17-4).
This is the fourth consecutive year the Penguins have advanced to the NCAA Regional while the Wolverines have been to 16 straight NCAA Tournaments.
Transfer Morgan signs with YSU basketball

Devin Morgan from Delaware State University has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to play men’s basketball at Youngstown State, Penguins head coach Jerrod Calhoun announced Tuesday.
Morgan, a 5-foot-10 junior guard from Chester, Va., must sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer rules and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Last season, Morgan was named All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Third-Team after averaging 14.4 points and 3.3 assists per game.
Poland’s McFadden commits to Kent State

Poland’s Colt McFadden has committed to continue his academic and football career at Kent State University.
The senior kicker made 11 of 14 field goals in 2016, including a school record 55-yard kick against East.
McFadden, the son of former Youngstown State and NFL kicker Paul McFadden, was also perfect on extra points and had 82 touchbacks on kickoffs for Poland.
Colt’s older brother Connor, another former Poland kicker, is a kicker at YSU.
Saban gets extension, $4M signing bonus

Alabama coach Nick Saban could make $65 million over the next eight years.
University trustees approved a three-year contract extension through the 2024 season for Saban on Tuesday.
Saban will get $7.125 million in each of the next two seasons, counting $400,000 completion bonuses.
He also receives a $4 million signing bonus.
Saban will get up to $7.2 million in annual completion bonuses, with half of that due after the 2021 season.
