YOUNGSTOWN

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining recently announced that Rob Gorham became the new America Makes executive director effective Monday, replacing Ed Morris.

Morris will retire from NCDMM on May 31 and will continue to provide active transition support until his departure.

Gorham joined NCDMM in February 2013 as the America Makes deputy director for technology development and served for the past 21/2 years as the America Makes director of operations.

“Among his many accomplishments as a key member of NCDMM’s America Makes management team, Rob led the development of a robust member-driven additive manufacturing roadmapping methodology, and shaped and refined America Makes’ project call process that has resulted in a $97 million research and development portfolio,” said Ralph Resnick, NCDMM president and executive director, in a statement.

Morris intends to stay engaged in the additive manufacturing and aerospace and defense communities, but at a leisurely pace.

Based in Youngstown, America Makes is the first institute within the Manufacturing USA – formerly the National Network for Manufacturing Innovation – infrastructure and is driven by NCDMM. America Makes is considered the nation’s leading and collaborative partner in additive manufacturing and 3-D printing technology research, discovery, creation and innovation.
