Former Ohio Senate President Harry Meshel was honored for his service to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Youngstown at the annual Pittsburgh Metropolis St. Photios Awards banquet. Each year, two members of the 52 parishes in the Metropolis of Pittsburgh are recognized for their service to the church community. Meshel and Mary Dimitriou, both of Youngstown, were honored for their work at St. Nicholas.
2 stabbings probed
YOUNGSTOWN
Police are investigating two stabbings within 90 minutes of each other Monday on the West Side. About 11:45 a.m., a man was arrested after a woman was stabbed in the hands with a pair of scissors at an apartment in the 1200 block of Salt Springs Road.
About 1 p.m., police were called to a home in the 500 block of North Dunlap Avenue after a man called 911 on his way to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital and said he was stabbed in the chest there.
A man was treated by paramedics for a head wound at the scene and then he was taken into custody.
Board to meet

Recycle signs

After the primary election is over, political campaign yard signs may be taken to Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., to be recycled anytime during daylight hours over the next two weeks. Signs should be placed next to the yellow recycling drop-off bins, according to the Mahoning County Recycling Division.
I-80 ramp to close

The ramp from Interstate 80 westbound to U.S. Route 62 and state Route 7 will be closed from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 10 a.m. Friday for road construction, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced. The detour will be Interstate 80 westbound to state Route 193 to Interstate 80 eastbound.
Man hospitalized
WARREN
A city man, 21, was shot in the thigh, shattering his femur and requiring surgery, police learned early Sunday at ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
The man was driving his girlfriend’s car about 3 a.m. from Hazelwood Avenue onto Burton Street Southeast when someone in a black automobile fired twice at their car, the passenger said.
The passenger drove the victim to the hospital, where police observed the car to have a bullet hole in the driver’s door and a lot of blood on the door, console, driver’s seat and passenger seat.
