It's 7:30 p.m. and the polls are closed for the races The Vindicator is watching in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Turnout for today’s primary election will be very light, local election officials say.
Turnout is expected to be between 25 percent and 30 percent in Mahoning County among eligible voters, said Joyce Kale-Pesta, its elections director.
In Mahoning County, 87 of 212 voting precincts are open for the primary.
In Trumbull County, voters in 86 of 158 precincts can cast ballots.
Among key races:
• John A. McNally, who won the mayoral primary and then the general election in 2013, again faces Jamael Tito Brown, director of operations at the Mahoning County Treasurer’s Office and a former city council president, in the May 2 Democratic primary.
• Three Democrats are competing in the May 2 primary for a six-year term as judge of Struthers Municipal Court. Incumbent Judge James R. Lanzo, 72, is retiring. His son, James E. Lanzo, 45, is one contender for the position. He faces Dominic Leone III, 39, the Struthers law director, and Jamie Dunn, 67, a visiting Struthers judge.
