Boardman police: burglar left behind shoes, cell phone
Staff report
BOARDMAN
A man who police say burglarized a Forest Park Drive home didn’t get away with anything, but he did leave some things behind: his shoes and cellphone.
When township police arrived at the house in the 200 block of Forest Park about 2:30 a.m. Monday on a call about a break-in, it didn’t take them long to find a suspect. They found Delvon Cox, 18, of Youngstown lying in a nearby yard’s bushes without any shoes.
The owner of the burglarized house told police that he was sleeping in a first-floor bedroom “when he was awakened by someone kicking over a dog dish in the kitchen,” according to a police report.
The homeowner said he then saw someone’s shadow as they left the house from an open kitchen window. Upon going into the kitchen, he reportedly found that his laptop and backpack were missing.
Police later found all of the missing property on the ground outside the window they believe Cox used to enter and leave the house. Also left behind at the scene was an Air Jordan sneaker, a flashlight and a cellphone belonging to Cox. Cox’s other tennis shoe was found on a nearby lawn.
Cox was arrested on charges of burglary, possession of criminal tools and attempted theft of a motor vehicle. He was in the Mahoning County jail Monday on $17,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment.
