Singing contest at Salem theater

Staff report

SALEM

Salem Community Theatre, 490 E. State St., will present a vocal competition titled “Small Town Big Voice Salem” on May 6.

Local singers will vie against one another in a contest that will be decided by celebrity judges. The contestants will be judged on overall talent, performance presentation, crowd response and other factors.

In addition, contestants will have their own “background bios” playing before their first performance that will reveal funny, obscure and interesting facts about them to the audience.

The vocalists will compete in two categories: 14 years old and under, and 15 years old and up. Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in both categories.

Registration forms can be downloaded at salemcommunitytheatre.org. The fee is $15. Email the completed form and a 30-second clip (or a link to a clip) of yourself singing before the April 15 registration deadline to smalltownbigvoicesalem@gmail.com.

Those who register will receive a confirmation notice by email, along with additional details of the performance requirements.

The contest will take place at 7 p.m. May 6 at the theater, 490 E. State St., downtown. Contestants will be required to attend a dress rehearsal May 5.

Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 330-332-9688.
