Ty Sticko captured OYWA District Title wrestling in the 70 pound weight class. Sticko had two pins and a technical fall (12-point lead) to advance to the Championship match against Sal Palmisano of Mayfield. Stricko controlled the match and won by decision, 7-2.

Caden Kohout (110 pounds) and Hunter Newell (79 pounds) also placed in the top four of their weight class to advance to the OYWA State Championships in Akron. Kohout finished second, losing the championship bout to Lake Catholic’s Zak Delsanter. Newell was nursing a sore shoulder but fought his way into fourth-place to make the trip. Both Kohout and Newell will be making their second trip to the state meet.

Canfield Wrestling Club sent 13 wrestlers to the district meet which has representatives from 47 clubs from all throughout northeast Ohio.

“This is a special day for the kids participating and their parents. The goal all season, perhaps for years, is to go to State. To see the elation when they make it is incredible. But on the flip side to see the disappointment in those that fall short, is crushing. Many of our wrestlers will wrestle for the next 2-3 months to prepare for next season.” Dave Crawford, Canfield Club Coach.
