After seven weeks of the regular season wrestling and three months of practice, the playoffs are here for wrestling.

Canfield entered 20 wrestlers into the 13 team Ohio Youth Wrestling Association (OYWA) Sectional Tournament. Thirteen of the Cards placed in the top four of their weight class to advance to the district meet.

The 13 Canfield wrestlers going to districts include five sectional champions - Jon Adamson (52), Ty Stricko (70), Hunter Newell (79), Noah Frank (105) and Caden Kohout (110). Also placing and qualifying were Jose Estremera (52), Tanner Stricko (60), Ryan Wissmar (73), Aiden Hensdill (76), Evan Williams (86), Niko Poullas (105), Aiden Rogers (120) and Evan Parker (120).

The district meet will take place at Austintown Fitch High School. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the OYWA State meet in Akron.

“There has been a lot of work and sweat over the past three months to prepare for this state tournament run,” Canfield Coach Dave Crawford said. “The boys really wrestled well today. This might be the most wrestlers the club has sent to Districts.”

The Canfield Wrestling Club consists of wrestlers in the sixth-grade and under. The boys compete weekly against boys from eleven other area clubs. The wrestlers are paired by age, weight and experience to get the most competitive matches possible.
