Austintown Bounce hosts Eggstravaganza
Austintown Bounce will be hosting its annual Bounce with Bunny Easter Eggstravaganza from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on April 8. A $5 admission will get you involved in the Easter Egg Hunt that starts at 9:30 a.m., pictures with the Easter Bunny, prize raffles, goodie bags and inflatable bounce time. There will be more than 5,000 eggs and dozens of prizes so remember to bring your own Easter basket. The Easter Eggstravaganza is sponsored by First American Loans. Austintown Bounce is location on 4317 Kirk Road in Austintown.
Early release day on May 10 cancelled
At a regularly scheduled board meeting on March 15, the Austintown Board of Education approved the resolution to revise the 2016-2017 school calendar to reflect that May 10 will be a full student day and not an early release day. The early release days are used for administration and staff to engage in professional development, but due to students attending Camp Fitch the May early release day has been cancelled. Professional development planned is still set to take place and will be worked into school hours.
Auditorium open
After only a two week closure, the Austintown Fitch auditorium is open once again. The Austintown Board of Education approved a contract with Janson Industries to repair the rigging system in the auditorium at the March board meeting. The rigging system became a cause for safety concern in early March after the weight and pulley system gave way. The first performance set to take place will be the high school’s musical “Into the Woods” March 31 through April 2. All events previously scheduled from that date on will remain in the auditorium.
Pancake breakfast to be April 2
Immaculate Heart of Mary Knights of Columbus 3930 is sponsoring a pancake and sausage breakfast on April 2 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the parish center, located at 4500 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown. The menu consists of pancakes, sausage and beverages. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. There will be door prizes and a 50/50 raffle.
Smart money picture bingo
Celebrate Smart Money Week at the Austintown library on April 29 at 11 a.m. with fun and prizes for the whole family. Picture Bingo for all ages. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult to this half-hour program. This is for the family.
BPJWL April meeting to be April 3
The next meeting of the GFWC Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League will take place on April 3 at 7 p.m. at Glenellen, located at 9661 Market St. in North Lima. League members will be preparing for a raffle based on the Ohio Lottery. Tickets are $5 and are available from any league member. Kirsten Weaver will be the guest speaker that evening. Her program will be about her trip to Jamaica with Therapy Missions – USA Mission Team. They are going to a Mustard Seed Community in Jamaica to do Occupational Therapy work with adults with Developmental Disabilities. Hostesses for the month are Joyce Martin, Sperry Rongone and Chery Smaldino.
Kolachi drive-through to be April 6-7
There will be a kolachi (nut roll) drive-through at the Church of Jesus Christ, located at 185 N. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown, April 6-7, from 3-6 p.m. The cost is $11 per roll.
Knitting Guild meeting to be April 11
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet on April 11 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. A brief program on Knitting Slang will be presented and members are encouraged to bring and show their knitted Herringbone Stitch pillows. ABWA meeting to be April 11
The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will meet on April 11 at 6:30 p.m. at A La Cart in Canfield. Dinner will be southern baked chicken, roast beef, potato au gratin, peas and carrots, salad, Jello, cole slaw and dessert. The cost is $18. The speaker for the evening will be Chief Don Hutchinson of the Cardinal Fire Department, to speak on the drug problem in Ohio.
Playtime at your library
Prepare for kindergarten through play at the Austintown library on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. You’ll read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for Kindergarten. This is for children ages 2-6. All children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult to this one-hour program.
Pre-Kindergarten story time
This program is for 4 and 5-year-old children to help develop pre-literacy and kindergarten readiness skills. You will use books, stories, rhymes, music, movement and crafts at the Austintown library at 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in April to help your child get ready for kindergarten.
Exploding egg art
Create works of art using paint, eggs, bubbles, salt and more at the Austintown library on April 22 at 11 a.m. Children will get messy, so dress appropriately. This event is for the entire family.
Bonding with babies and books
This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize at the Austintown library every Tuesday in April at 10 a.m.
Tales and talk for 2s and 3s
Join the Austintown library every Wednesday in April at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.
Gotta move story time
Join the Austintown library every Thursday in April at 10 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play. This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a care giver.
Grab and go craft for April
Make a craft to take home during library hours in the month of April at the Austintown library. Children of all ages are invited to participate.

On the first Saturday of each month, go to the Austintown library and read to Reese, a therapy dog from Pet Partners on April 1 at 11 a.m. Bring your own book, or the librarians will find one for you, and read to a furry friend. Kindergarten registration
The Austintown Local Schools will be hosting kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year for students residing in the Austintown School District. Kindergarten registration packets are available Monday through Friday at Austintown Elementary School from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and at Austintown Early Learning Center from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The packet explains all necessary documents needed. All new kindergarten students must attend a registration and screening appointment. Registration and screening for the 2017-2018 school year will be done by appointment only. Open enrollment for 2017-2018
The Austintown Local Schools is now accepting enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year. The district is currently taking students in grades kindergarten through eighth-grade, based on current class size availability. Although grades 9-12 are closed, students are still able to apply for special programs, such as Falcon Pride Online and STEM. IHM Run Festival to be June 8
This is the annual 5K run that gets the local community festival off to a great running start. The date is set for June 8. The start time is 7 p.m. Runners, be sure to mark your calendar now so you don’t miss out on one of the longest standing 5K runs in the area. For a $10 entry fee, runners can run through local neighborhood roads and finish near the festival grounds. All runners must be registered to participate. Online registration is available at runsignup.com/race/oh/austintown/ihmfestival5k. Race day registration will start at 5 p.m. in front of the education building at 4490 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown. Easter egg hunt
There will be an indoor Easter Egg Hunt on April 8 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown. There will be candy, crafts, a gift bag of gospel eggs and a video presentation. It is open to all kids in the community between the ages of 2 and 12.

GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
