Morton Kaish art exhibition to open

An exhibition of the color-filled art of Morton Kaish will open Sunday at the Butler Institute of American Art’s Trumbull Branch, 9350 E. Market St., and run through July 9.

Titled “Spring Rising: Landscape Paintings & Prints,” the exhibition of 43 works will open with an artist reception and gallery talk from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

Kaish’s paintings, drawings and prints have been exhibited around the world and can be found in major museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the British Museum. He is known for combining traditional and experimental painting techniques with contemporary insights.

“Kaish’s way of holding nature at bay has produced a new multidimensional concern with line, form and shape – and the outcome is a fascinating blend of the abstract and the figurative,” wrote Arts Magazine. “By now, his command of the subject is nothing less than masterful.”

Kaish lives in New York where he is professor emeritus at State University of New York. He has served as artist-in- residence at Dartmouth College, the University of Washington and Haifa University in Israel, as well as on the faculties of the New School and the Art Students League of New York.
