Blue Jackets 3, Sabres 1

COLUMBUS

Cam Atkinson got his team-leading 34th goal and Sergei Bobrovsky had 41 saves to power the Columbus Blue Jackets to a win over the Buffalo Sabres. Kyle Quincey also scored for Columbus, getting his first goal since being acquired from New Jersey on March 1. Brandon Saad got an empty-net goal with 1:05 left after Buffalo pulled its goalie for an extra skater. The win put the Blue Jackets two points ahead of idle Pittsburgh in second place in the Metropolitan Division as they battle for home-ice advantage in the playoffs next month.

Hurricanes 4, Red Wings 1

RALEIGH, N.C.

Lee Stempniak and Joakim Nordstrom scored about five minutes apart in the first period, and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Detroit Red Wings in the teams’ second meeting in two nights. Jordan Staal and Elias Lindholm also scored for Carolina and Cam Ward stopped 21 shots. The Hurricanes have earned a point in 12 straight games (8-0-4) to move four points out of the Eastern Conference’s final playoff spot.

Jets 4, Devils 3, SO

NEWARK, N.J.

Patrik Laine scored in a shootout and the Winnipeg Jets rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat the New Jersey Devils in the makeup of a game that was postponed by a snowstorm earlier this month. Connor Hellebuyck made 20 saves and stopped all three Devils’ shootout attempts as the Jets rallied from a 3-1 deficit to sweep the season series.

Bruins 4, Predators 1

BOSTON

Tuukka Rask made 24 saves in his return from a one-game absence and the Boston Bruins beat the Nashville Predators, boosting their playoff chances. Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Noel Acciari and David Backes scored for the Bruins.

Flyers 3, Senators 2, SO

PHILADELPHIA

Jordan Weal scored the only shootout goal after tying the game late in the third period to lift the Philadelphia Flyers to a victory over the Ottawa Senators. Brayden Schenn also scored for the Flyers, a long shot to make the playoffs with six games remaining.

Canadiens 4, Stars 1

MONTREAL

Brendan Gallagher put Montreal ahead early in the third period and the Canadiens went on to a victory over the Dallas Stars. Max Pacioretty, Artturi Lehkonen and Alexander Radulov also scored for Montreal, which won a second game in a row. Carey Price finished with 27 saves.

Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 2

TORONTO

Auston Matthews broke Wendel Clark’s 31-year-old franchise rookie record with his 35th goal of the season, and Toronto earned a win over Florida. The victory kept Toronto (87 points) one point up on the Boston Bruins (86) for the third playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.

Capitals 5, Wild 4

ST. PAUL, MINN.

T.J. Oshie scored his second goal of the game 1:42 into overtime to bookend Alex Ovechkin’s hat trick, Braden Holtby earned his 40th win and Washington beat Minnesota for their fifth straight victory.
