On paid leave

YOUNGSTOWN

The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV News has confirmed that Martin Desmond, a Mahoning County assistant prosecutor, is on paid administrative leave as of last Thursday. Mahoning County Prosecutor Paul J. Gains is refusing to comment on the reason why.

The TV station’s sources say it has to do with the settlement of a federal lawsuit, and that Desmond will have a hearing on his status Friday. Reporter Michelle Nicks spoke to Desmond last week who told her, “I would appreciate the TV station not report it until all the truth comes out.”

Probation hearing

WARREN

Robert A. Branch, 29, of Alameda Avenue in Youngstown is in the Trumbull County Jail scheduled for a probation-violation hearing April 5 related to his fourth drug overdose in a year.

Branch went to jail Wednesday after overdosing and being revived with three doses of the opiate reversal drug naloxone at an apartment on Buckeye Street Northwest on March 16 and being taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He also was treated by Medstar ambulance personnel for an overdose in the restroom of the Main Avenue Northwest Burger King on March 6, according to police.

On Nov. 4, Branch was found not breathing in the rear parking lot of the Buckeye apartment and was treated for an overdose by Medstar ambulance personnel.

On July 11, he was treated with naloxone and taken to TMH by Medstar from the Buckeye apartment, police said. The March 16 overdose triggered a possible probation violation on four 2014 felony attempted child-endangering charges that resulted in him being placed on probation, according to court records.
