Free health talk

Free health talk

HOWLAND

The Wound Healing Center at Trumbull Memorial Hospital is hosting a free community health talk on Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 9095 E. Market St., Howland.

Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Board-certified general surgeon Dr. Rao Sudheendra will discuss HBO therapy, how it works and who could benefit. During HBO therapy, the body is exposed to 100 percent oxygen at a pressure that is greater than what the body normally experiences. Wounds need oxygen to heal properly and exposing them to 100 percent oxygen can speed up the healing process.

A typical treatment lasts an average of two hours, including 90 minutes at the prescribed treatment level plus the time it takes to pressurize and depressurize the chamber. The average number of treatments required to heal a patient with a wound is 20 to 40, but this varies from patient to patient.

To register for the event, call 330-841-6500.
