Ramos gets 20-plus years for 2016 chase

YOUNGSTOWN — A man accused of trying to ram and shoot police officers from three different jurisdictions last March during a chase was sentenced today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to 20-and-a-half-years in prison.

Judge John Durkin handed down the sentence to Luis Cruz Ramos, 30, who is also serving a federal prison sentence for the chase and manhunt last spring.

The sentence will run consecutive to a 21 and a half year federal sentence Ramos is serving after he pulled a gun on two U.S. Marshals who tried to arrest him.

Officers from Campbell March 31 were trying to serve a warrant from Puerto Rico on Ramos when he led them on a chase to Boardman, back to Campbell then to Interstate 680 in Boardman, where he abandoned the van he was driving and eluded police until April 1, when he was found on a South Side street and wounded after reports said he drew his gun and pointed it at U.S. Marshals who were looking for him.

Ramos pleaded guilty in common pleas court last week to 10 counts of felonious assault on a police officer, failure to comply, being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
