Jury selection starts in case of man accused in firefighter case

YOUNGSTOWN — Jury selection is underway today in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court for a man accused of arguing with firefighters at the scene of a fire where a firefighter was later shot.

Judge Lou D'Apolito is hearing the case against Cameron Dyer, 30, who faces a count of disrupting public service.

Reports said Dyer was arguing in December with firefighters who were fighting a blaze at a vacant Elm Street house Dyer owned because he thought they were not trying hard enough to save the home.

Dyer drove a car over fire hoses at the scene before leaving, reports said. As firefighters cleared the scene, Lt. Paul Dutton, driving a city fire engine, was wounded in the leg by someone firing an assault rifle.

No charges have been filed yet in the shooting of Dutton.
