YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Systems will host the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment along with the Pittsburgh Super-computing Center in Room 116 of Meshel Hall from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday for a programming workshop.

This workshop, which will be broadcast nationally, aims to introduce a beginner to graphics processing- unit programming. Anyone with basic knowledge of C or Fortran can attend this one-day tutorial and obtain real-world programming exercises.

Bird program set at Canfield library

The Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley invites the public to hear Bill Beatty, author of “Rainbows, Bluebirds and Buffleheads,” share stories of his life-long fascination with birds. This presentation will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Canfield branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Kindergarten registration/pre-screening will take place April 5-7 at Joshua Dixon Elementary School, 333 N. Middle St., for the upcoming 2017-18 school year.

Parents and/or guardians must call 330-482-5355 this week between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

Parents/guardians must bring the child they are registering, along with the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security card, proof of residency and custody papers (if applicable). The open-enrollment process begins at the superintendent’s office. Call Nancy Bacon at 330-482-5352 to get that paperwork started before registration.
