Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave. will offer the following opportunities: 10 a.m. Monday, snack facts; noon Thursday, picnic potluck luncheon; 1 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays April 5-28, Matter of Balance classes, materials and snacks provided, registration required. Coffee bar every morning, 8:30 to 11 a.m.; fitness rooms open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; 5 p.m. second Wednesday of every month, Fourth Ward Block Watch monthly meetings; 9:30 Thursdays, movies are offered with popcorn and hot chocolate; 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Yoga classes ($5/class) and noon to 1 p.m. Fridays, Tai Chi ($5/class). The Center also offers assistance with Medicare, prescription assistance and many other senior citizen issues by appointment. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., will offer these activities: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 3, James Pondillo, United Health Care, will answer medicare questions. An appointment is not necessary. Members and nonmembers are welcome. April 6, mammograms with the Mercy Health Mammovan from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Each appointment will be approximately 15 minutes. Insurance will be accepted. Those with no insurance will be eligible for a free mammogram; 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 21, free Lunch & Learn program with Dr. Robert Fleischer from Krause Optical, who will discuss Eye Care; 1 to 5 p.m. April 25, American Red Cross will have a blood drive. Ohio Living Park Vista Senior Center, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has scheduled the following activities: Monday, community fun day at Boardman Park at 10 a.m.; Tuesday, Petersburg fun day, computer class and brush, knife and needle club at 10 a.m., computer class and beginner and intermediate bridge and party bridge at noon, and Drums Alive at 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, walk for wellness at 9:30 a.m., watercolors at 10, tap class at noon, 500 bid card club at 1 p.m. and line dancing at 1:30; Thursday, woodcarvers at 9 a.m., multi-media art and socialization and toning exercise at noon and Texas Hold’em at 2 p.m. (looking for players); Friday, chair yoga at 1 p.m.; and Saturday, elder scams, identity theft and cyber security by Consumer Protection Agency at 2 p.m. Call 330-744-5071 in advance for reservations for all classes and events. Silver Sneakers classes are available Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 1 to 2 p.m., in the Gathering Room. The initial class offering is Silver Sneakers Circuit, a mid-level program combining standing and sitting activities utilizing a ball, band and weights. Senior Corps Retired Senior Volunteer Program, located in First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 201 Wick Ave., is under the Corp. for National and Community Service. It is a volunteer program whose aim is to link volunteers, age 55 and over, with a variety of volunteer opportunities within their community. There are sites throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties with opportunities such as senior companionship, transcription for museums, meal delivery for home bound seniors, construction and many other opportunities. There is no maximum requirement of volunteer hours. There is a short application, and the program coordinator will meet with volunteers to match them with their preferred site based on their interests, skills and location.
