Wauseon 42, Eastmoor Academy 35

COLUMBUS

Brooks Gype scored 14 points and made a key basket to help Wauseon beat Columbus Eastmoor Academy Thursday at Value City Arena. Wauseon (27-1) goes for its first state title vs. Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary on Saturday in Columbus. Gype put back a missed free throw by Austin Rotroff with 1:20 to play to give Wauseon a 37-33 lead. After a missed Eastmoor Academy shot, Carter Bzovi made two free throws to give him 13 points and the Indians a 40-33 lead with 9.5 seconds left. Taevion Kinsey had 15 points for the Eastmoor Academy (22-7) Warriors, who scored six points in the final 35 seconds of the third quarter to take a 25-24 lead.

Akron SVSM 62, Trotwood-Madison 60

COLUMBUS

Jayvon Graves scored the last of his 22 points on a baseline drive at the buzzer to give Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary a win over Trotwood-Madison on Thursday. St. Vincent-St. Mary (24-5), last season’s runner-up, will play Wauseon on Saturday in Columbus as the Fighting Irish seek their seventh state title. St. Vincent-St. Mary held the ball the final 27 seconds to set up the shot after Jonathan Williams stole the ball from Torrey Patton. A jump ball ensued and St. Vincent-St. Mary had the possession arrow, which enabled Graves to get his first points in 12 minutes. Patton, the Associated Press Division II co-player of the year with Graves, had 34 points and 11 rebounds for Trotwood-Madison (26-3).

DIVISION IV

Wellington 68, Lima Perry 47

COLUMBUS

Solomon Pierre-Louis scored 16 points and Columbus Wellington quelled a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Lima Perry on Thursday in a state semifinal at Value City Arena. The Jaguars play for their first title against Cleveland Heights Lutheran East on Saturday. Wellington (22-7) led by 18 early in the fourth quarter but Perry (24-4) closed to within 56-46 before Guy Schmidt scored six straight points, then fed Dustin Harder for a dunk to make it 64-46. Harder had nine points and his 21 rebounds tied the Division IV semifinal record. Dallas Patrick had 11 points and Noah Berry 10 points for Wellington while Schmidt had all eight of his points in the fourth quarter. Orion Monford scored 19 and Plummie Gardner 14 for Perry.

Lutheran East 50, Delphos St. John’s 25

COLUMBUS

Cleveland Heights Lutheran East outscored Delphos St. John’s 21-0 in the third quarter to break open a close game Thursday at Value City Arena. The Falcons play Wellington on Saturday, bidding to match their lone state title in 2005. St. John’s (21-5) went nearly seven minutes into the second quarter without scoring but only trailed 16-13 at the half when Jared Wurst hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left for the Blue Jays’ second field goal of the quarter. But St. John’s missed all seven shots in the third, and Lutheran East easily pulled away.

Jordan Burge led Lutheran East (19-9) with 16 points. Robby Saine had 10 points for the Blue Jays (21-5).
