The fathers and sons of Dobbins Elementary spent an evening together experimenting with different science activities on March 9.

This is the first year that Dobbins and the PTO had a father-son event and more than 100 third- and fourth-grade students showed up with their fathers, grandfathers or any other significant male figure in their lives.

“It’s to show that there’s science in so many things and it can be fun,” said Lori Casey, PTO member.

The six stations that the pairs rotated through were the food station, getting a picture and frame to decorate, computer science coding, mad science slime, static electricity relay races and an egg drop engineering challenge. There was a special surprise at the end of the night where students from Poland Seminary High School students put on a large group demonstration experiment for all of the guests.

The students were divided into groups and they spent a certain amount of time at each station before moving on to the next one.

There was a photo station for everyone to get their picture taken to remember the night. There were foam picture frames given out to decorate for the picture to go inside.

All six stations allowed the guests to be hands-on while learning about how science is used in so many different things. The night gave the students an opportunity to spend time with their family and friends while having fun as they learn.
