Greenbriar Health Center and the Commons Assisted Living hosted their first Chili Cook-Off at the Orange Spot Bistro on Feb. 28 in celebration of Heart Month and the Go Red for Women campaign.
Registration was open to anyone who wanted to enter. Registration was $25 which reserved guests a table, chairs, tasting cups, bowls and gloves for the participants.
The proceeds from the chili cook-off were donated to The American Heart Association. The American Heart Association provides services and support to the community such as CPR and First Aid training to the public, health care professionals and an education on how to live a healthy life. With the donations, The American Hearth Association will be able to continue to provide the community with health education.
Greenbriar, The Blackburn Home and Comfort Care-a-Van were participants in the cook-off and brought their most delicious chili to try and win. All three competitors had business cards and other marketing products to give out to the guests.
Guests who attended the cook-off had to opportunity to taste all of the chili and vote for their favorite one.
Along with the chili contest, there was a Chinese raffle with several items that were donated by different businesses and organizations in the community.
At the end of the cook-off, the votes were tallied and the winners were announced. Comfort Care-a-Van came in first place, Greenbriar Health Center came in second place with their healthy turkey chili and The Blackburn Home came in third with their “Wide Awake in N’Awlins” chili. All three winners received a prize at the end to take back with them.
