Boy Scouts to host awards dinner April 2

Whispering Pines District Great Trail Council Boy Scouts of America will host the annual District Awards Dinner recognizing the 2016 Eagle Scouts, Scouting Units and Volunteers.

This year’s dinner will take place on April 2 at St. James Episcopal Church, located on Glenwood Avenue in Boardman, and will celebrate scouting achievements of scouters in the Whispering Pines District. This recognition provides encouragement for others to live scouting ideals daily.

The theme is “Blazing a New Trail,” since the Greater Western Reserve Council was merged with The Great Trail Council out of Akron.

The recognition dinner will honor the 29 Scouts who have earned their Eagle Scout Award in 2016, the highest award possible in Boy Scouts. Also being honored will be Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews and Scout volunteers.

The highlight of the evening will be the awarding of the District Award of Merit, the highest honor the Whispering Pines District can bestow upon a volunteer. The award is available to scouters who have rendered service of an outstanding nature at the district level. Recipients of this award are registered Scouters who have made an impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council.

The Whispering Pines District part of the Great Trail Council serves families in Mahoning County and Hubbard with more than 1,000 youth involved in 42 units supported by more than 600 adult volunteers. Great Trail Council serves more than 13,000 scouts in Summit, Portage, Medina, Mahoning, Trumbull and Northern Wayne Counties.

The program will begin at 5:30 p.m., and reservations are required by calling Great Trail Council Center at 330-773-4078 Boy Scouts of America, Whispering Pines District in Akron or online at https://scoutingevent.com/433-WPRecDinner.
