The 17th annual Boardman High School Jazz Fest will take place on March 28 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center.
The event will feature all four of Boardman’s jazz ensembles, including the eighth-grade group. Tickets are available at the door, and cost $3 for adults and $2 for students. Seniors citizens and children are admitted free.
Boardman alumnus Joe Graziosi will be featured on saxophone. Graziosi, a musician and one time musical director for Royal Caribbean Cruises, will soon be freelancing in New York City while collaborating with Broadway Producer and Youngstown native Michael Moritz.
The Boardman jazz program continues to collect honors and unique opportunities. Groups have played several engagements at New York City’s famous jazz club Swing 46, B.B. King’s Blues Club, The Blue Wisp in Cincinnati and BluJazz+ in Akron. Another appearance at Swing 46 is planned for early June. In addition to its New York appearances, Jazz Ensemble 1 will perform at the Packard JAM Fest on April 6.
The Summer Jazz Ensemble will be in full swing this year with appearances at Columbiana Firestone Park on June 25, Waterfire Sharon on July 15, Salem Waterworth Park on July 23 and Boardman Park on Aug. 24.
