Saxon club has pork-kraut dinner

The Youngstown Saxon Club, located at 710 S. Meridian Road, will host its next Pork-Kraut dinner on March 26 from 11:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. The price of $9.50 for adults and $5 for children includes dessert and coffee, tea or pop. The public is welcome and takeouts are available.

Smart money picture bingo

Celebrate Smart Money Week at the Austintown library on April 29 at 11 a.m. with fun and prizes for the whole family. Picture Bingo for all ages. Each child will receive a piggy bank. Children must be accompanied by an adult to this half-hour program. This is for the family.

Playtime at your library

Prepare for kindergarten through play at the Austintown library on April 10 at 6:30 p.m. You’ll read a story and have fun with developmentally appropriate games and activities that you can do with your child to help them get ready for Kindergarten. This is for children ages 2-6. All children under 7 must be accompanied by an adult to this one-hour program.

Pre-K story time

This program is for 4 and 5-year-old children to help develop pre-literacy and kindergarten readiness skills. You will use books, stories, rhymes, music, movement and crafts at the Austintown library at 11:30 a.m. every Wednesday in April to help your child get ready for kindergarten.

Bonding with babies and books

This event is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize at the Austintown library every Tuesday in April at 10 a.m.

Tales and talk for 2s and 3s

Join the Austintown library every Wednesday in April at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader.

Exploding egg art

Create works of art using paint, eggs, bubbles, salt and more at the Austintown library on April 22 at 11 a.m. Children will get messy, so dress appropriately. This event is for the entire family.

Gotta move story time

Join the Austintown library every Thursday in April at 10 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play. This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a care giver.

Grab and go craft for April

Make a craft to take home during library hours in the month of April at the Austintown library. Children of all ages are invited to participate.

Guess the picture book

Can you guess the picture book from the cut up cover? One winner chosen at random from correct entries at the Austintown library during library hours in April. This is for children of all ages.

Read to Reese

On the first Saturday of each month, go to the Austintown library and read to Reese, a therapy dog from Pet Partners on April 1 at 11 a.m. Bring your own book, or the librarians will find one for you, and read to a furry friend. Registration is required, as space is limited. Register online or by calling 330-744-8636 and asking for the Austintown library. This program is for school-age children.

Lego my library

Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs at the Austintown library on April 5 at 6 p.m. Legos will be provided. This is for children, ages 6 and up.

Make your own string art

Get creative and let the wood and nails speak to you at the Austintown library on April 3 at 6 p.m. Walk through how to create string art on a wood block and take home a piece of artwork all your own. Teen Advisory Board

Join the Austintown area TAB. Help plan and support teen activities at the library. Meet new people and have fun at the Austintown library on April 1 at 3 p.m. Snacks will be provided. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.

Join the Austintown library on April 13 at 6 p.m. for a relaxing evening of adult coloring. Coloring sheets and materials will be provided, or you’re welcome to bring your own. This is for teens and adults.

3-D printing: Design

Design your own 3-D READ keychain and get yourself one step closer to using this fascinating, groundbreaking technology at the Austintown library on April 6 at 6:30 p.m. Basic computer skills are needed. Kinect sports for seniors

Have fun participating in sports without the sweat and stress at the Austintown library on April 21 at 10 a.m. Play virtual sports on the big screen. You can bowl, play soccer, table tennis, beach volleyball, box or even try track and field events. The event promises to be a morning of fun and light refreshments. This is for adults only.

Watch movies at the library

Bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movie at the Austintown library on April 25 at 6 p.m. The movie will be a newly released DVD rated PG or G. This is for the family. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn how easy it is to set up your own email account at the Austintown library on April 7 at 11 a.m. This is a beginner’s class that will cover setting up an internet based e-mail account and how to use it. Would you like to learn how to download free eBooks, audiobooks, movies, TV shows, music, complete issues of magazines and more to your computer and mobile devices? Come to the Austintown library on April 24 at 6 p.m. This event is for adults.

Kindergarten registration

The Austintown Local Schools will be hosting kindergarten registration for the 2017-2018 school year for students residing in the Austintown School District. Kindergarten registration packets are available Monday through Friday at Austintown Elementary School from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and at Austintown Early Learning Center from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The packet explains all necessary documents needed. All new kindergarten students must attend a registration and screening appointment. Registration and screening for the 2017-2018 school year will be done by appointment only. Open enrollment for 2017-2018

The Austintown Local Schools is now accepting enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year. The district is currently taking students in grades kindergarten through eighth-grade, based on current class size availability. Although grades 9-12 are closed, students are still able to apply for special programs, such as Falcon Pride Online and STEM. Love books? Go to the Chapter Chat Book Club where they will be reading and discussing a book together every month. Each month will be a new genre. This month’s book is “Catch-22” by Joseph Heller and will take place at the Austintown library on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This club is for adults.

Page Turners book club

Love books? Looking for a good read? Hear what others are reading and share your favorite read, or just come and join the fun at the Austintown library on April 19 at 6 p.m. This club is for adults.

Tea and Mystery book club

Join the Austintown library on April 11 at 6 p.m. to sip tea and discuss your latest mystery novel find. This club is for adults.

IHM Run Festival to be June 8

This is the annual 5K run that gets the local community festival off to a great running start. The date is set for June 8. The start time is 7 p.m. Runners, be sure to mark your calendar now so you don’t miss out on one of the longest standing 5K runs in the area. For a $10 entry fee, runners can run through local neighborhood roads and finish near the festival grounds. All runners must be registered to participate. Online registration is available at runsignup.com/race/oh/austintown/ihmfestival5k. Race day registration will start at 5 p.m. in front of the education building at 4490 Norquest Blvd. in Austintown. Easter egg hunt

There will be an indoor Easter Egg Hunt on April 8 at 11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road in Austintown. There will be candy, crafts, a gift bag of gospel eggs and a video presentation. It is open to all kids in the community between the ages of 2 and 12.

Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings

Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. This location is handicapped accessible. On Wednesdays, a meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Care - Northside Medical Center in the Medical Education Building, auditorium A, located at 500 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown. This location is handicapped accessible. On Thursdays at 6 p.m., a meeting will take place in Faith Chapel Fellowship Church, located at 511 E. Pershing St. in Salem, while at 7:30 p.m. a meeting will take place at New Life Lutheran Church, located at 1181 Churchill-Hubbard Road in Youngstown. GA to meet twice this week

Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Library host informational presentation

Join the Austintown library for an informational presentation about guns on March 25 at 10 a.m. Sergeant Steven Lindow of the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office will be on hand to speak about relevant laws concerning concealed carry, firearms vocabulary, gun safety and will present different types of guns and parts of a gun. Note that there will be no ammunition on site for any of the weapons. This program is for adults 18 years and over only.

Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. LDR to have reverse raffle

Legacy Dog Rescue of Ohio (LDR) will host it’s first reverse raffle on April 1 at Avion on the Lake, located at 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for games, giveaways and a huge basket auction. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the reverse raffle to follow. The grand prize is $1,200. Tickets are $55 for two dinners and a chance to win the grand prize. One hundred tickets will be sold. The Austintown Night Out Committee is hosting a Trash and Treasure sale on May 20 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Austintown Township Park. Spaces are $10 each. The event is outside and is rain or shine.
