4 face OVI charges after Mahoning checkpoints

AUSTINTOWN — Four people were charged with operating a vehicle while impaired during a police sobriety checkpoint on Mahoning Avenue at Howard Street.

Members of the Mahoning County OVI Task Force, in collaboration with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, conducted the checkpoint from 10:30 p.m. Friday [St. Patrick’s Day] to 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Officers also charged four people for driving under suspension, one for no operator’s license, three for not wearing a seat belt, and two for drug abuse.

Police noted that about 25 percent of vehicles that passed through the checkpoint were either taxis, limousines or Uber vehicles.
