Whispering Pines District hosts Boy Scouts breakfast

Whispering Pines District of the Great Trail Council of Boy Scouts of America will host its 12th annual Celebration of Scouting breakfast fundraiser April 25 at Holiday Inn, 7410 South Ave.

Doors will open at 7 a.m., and breakfast will be served between 7:30 and 8. Reservations are required by April 7 by contacting John Brkic at 330-773-0415, ext. 230, or at john.brkic@scouting.org.

Speakers will be Greg Smith, founder of Diamond Management Systems and chairman of the board of Compco Industries; Artemus Scissum, principal of Martin Luther King Elementary School; and Victor Di Tommaso, a life Scout of Boy Scout Troop 2 in Poland, and a junior at Poland Seminary High School. Mark Luke will be the master of ceremonies. Other attendants will include local business and community leaders.

John Brkic, Whispering Pines District executive, is the chairman of the event. Committee members include John Barkett, Katie Burkey, Albin Dearing, Stephen Halloran, Kurt Hilderbrand, Mike Kupec, Laura Kupec, Mark Luke, Bill Moss, John Russell and John Yerian.

Whispering Pines District serves families in Mahoning County and Hubbard with more than 1,000 youths and 600 adult volunteers. Great Trail Council has more than 13,000 Scouts in Summit, Portage, Medina, Mahoning, Trumbull and Northerm Wayne counties.

Boy Scouts of America also uses the program Scoutreach to ensure that all youths have the opportunity to join BSA, including those in the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.

Donations may be sent to Great Trail Council-BSA, Attn: WP FOS Breakfast, 3712 Leffingwell Road, Canfield, OH 44406, with checks payable to Great Trail Council-BSA.

Sponsorships are available at multiple levels, including Eagle for $5,000, which sponsors 33 Scouts for one year; Tenderfoot, $2,500, 17 Scouts; Webelos, $1,500, 10 Scouts; and Tiger Cub, $750, five Scouts. Gifts of $150 will sponsor one Scout. Donations and sponsorships must be received by April 7.
