Rev. Korda to lead CTN of Youngstown

Bishop George V. Murry has named the Rev. James Korda as president of the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown, effective immediately.

The title reflects the model of Catholic Telecommunication Directors and their effective job descriptions around the country.

Korda has been the pastoral director of CTNY for 18 years and will continue to oversee all content creative, programming, brand development and marketing of CTNY and ETC-Ecumenical Television Channel.

Celebration of Akathist to the Cross

The Diocese of the Midwest’s Cleveland Deanery of the Orthodox Church in America, along with the Eastern Orthodox Clergy Association of the Mahoning Valley, will celebrate the Akathist to the Cross at 5 p.m. Sunday at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 159, Reed Ave.

The guest homilist will be His Grace Bishop Neofitos of Nyeri and Mount Kenya, Holy Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Choir celebrates ‘Stepping Out on Faith’

The Total Praise Choir of The Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., will host its annual musical celebration at 4 p.m. March 26.

This year’s theme is “Stepping Out on Faith.” The musical will feature choirs, soloists and musicians from the Youngstown and surrounding areas.

Raymond Mason is the senior pastor.

Program focuses on refugee crisis

St. Edward Catholic Church, 240 Tod Lane, will host a Lenten speaker program beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The 21/2-hour program includes Mass, a light Lenten supper and speaker, the Rev. David Bergner.

The program is titled “The People of God show compassion: The Refugee Crisis and the Diocese of Youngstown” and is about the Diocese working with the Diocese of Cleveland to help resettle a few of the 20 million refugees here.

A free-will offering will be accepted.

Then, at 5:30 p.m. March 28, is another program with speaker Terry Vicars, case manager of Catholic Charities.

The program is titled “The People of God respect life: The Seamless Garment: Poverty and the Homeless.”

This session will overview the Church’s Seamless Garment Teaching and focus on aspects of poverty and homelessness as they relate to that teaching.

Villa Maria offers wholeness program

VILLA MARIA, Pa.

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will offer a one-day presentation with Sister Ilia Delio titled “Seeking Wholeness: Catholicity, Cosmology and Consciousness.”

This presentation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 25.

The presentation will explore the meaning of catholicity in its relation to cosmos and consciousness to see how a renewed understanding of catholicity can empower a new world.

The cost will be $55, which includes the program, lunch and refreshments.

Worldwide Latter-day Saints conference set

The public is invited to attend a live broadcast of the 187th annual worldwide conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at noon and 4 p.m. April 1 and 2 at Youngstown Chapel, 2205 Tibbetts Wick Road.

Sessions will be broadcast from The Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The women’s session, for all women age 8 and older, will be at 8 p.m. March 25. The priesthood sessions will be at 8 p.m. April 1.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir will provide music for the conference.

Also, the choir’s live broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word” will be at 11:30 a.m. April 2.

Chamber Orchestra to perform concert

The Youngstown Symphony Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Randall Craig Fleischer, will perform a Stained Glass Concert at 2 p.m. March 26 at Temple El Emeth, 3970 Logan Way.

A dessert reception by El Emeth Sisterhood will follow the concert. The concert is free and open to the public.

‘What Next’ retreat set in Chardon

The “What Next” retreat is for young adults in their 20s and 30s and will take place at Bethany Retreat Center in Chardon.

It starts at 8:30 a.m. March 25 and concludes March 26.

Mass is included in the retreat.

The cost is $45, which includes meals and supplies. Scholarships are available.

St. Charles Borromeo Parish Christian Formation Commission invites the public to a Lenten Parish Mission, Life’s Healing Journey, presented by Father Joseph Jablonski.

The objective of Father Jablonski’s mission is to bring the faithful into a deeper experience of God’s unconditional love as the spiritual base for forgiveness and healing.

The presentations will take place at 7 p.m. March 26, 27 and 28, with refreshments and social to follow the presentation on March 26, at the church, 7345 Westview Drive, Youngstown.
