The Raymond John Wean Foundation, one of 12 organizations selected from across the county, will participate in the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s Investing for Results, a leadership development program dedicated to closing racial disparities by giving funders the framework needed to guide their grant making, grantees and partners toward results-oriented and highly collaborative strategies.

Over the past 20 years, the Annie E. Casey Foundation has helped hundreds of leaders in the public and nonprofit sectors accelerate results for children and families through its results-based leadership development approach.

JCPenney closings

No local JCPenney locations will close.

Today, the retailer announced the 138 locations it will close this year.

JCPenney will also close one supply chain facility in Lakeland, Fla., and relocate one supply chain facility in Buena Park, Calif., to align the company’s physical store footprint and omnichannel network.

About 5,000 positions nationwide will be impacted by the store closures, most of which will occur in June. JCPenney is in the process of identifying relocation opportunities within the company for some employees. Additionally, JCPenney will provide outplacement support services for those eligible employees who will be leaving the company. Most affected stores will begin the liquidation process April 17.

Military priorities

WASHINGTON, D.C.

This week, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat from Cleveland, met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis to outline Ohio military priorities. During the meeting, Brown highlighted the need to upgrade the C-130H planes flown at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.

Last December, Brown and Sen. Rob Portman, a Republican from the Cincinnati area, announced the inclusion of their amendment to prioritize the C-130 upgrades needed at YARS in the National Defense Authorization Act, which was signed into law by President Barack Obama.

The law will encourage the Air Force to act on these upgrades by requiring it to report on how it will prioritize upgrades from C-130H aircrafts to new C-130J units, which YARS needs for its special mission.

Paint ’n Sip

NORTH LIMA

The Dunkin’ Donuts at 11686 Market St. will have its first Paint ’n Sip Coffee Night at 6 p.m. Thursday.

This event is open to the public and costs $35 per person. Advance reservation required. The fee includes a blank canvas, all the supplies and paint to use for the evening, professional painting instructions and two large hot or iced coffees to sip during the evening.
