Relay for Life goes for world record

« Poland Neighbors

The 2017 Relay for Life theme “Heroes of Hope” will be punctuated by a Guinness Book world record attempt at having the most people at an event wearing a cape. Registration for the record attempt will begin on June 17 at 12 p.m. The headcount will commence on the field at the Poland Seminary High School stadium at 1 p.m. Capes can be plastic, cloth, paper, sequins, whatever you have available. This will be the highlight of a 20-hour relay event honoring survivors and caregivers from our local communities.

The Relay for Life event will begin at 6 p.m. on June 16 at the Poland Seminary High School stadium with the opening ceremony, followed by Survivor and Caregiver recognition and then the Survivor dinner provided by Belleria. The inspirational and moving luminaria ceremony will start at 9:30 p.m., with fun games and activities going on throughout the night. At 10 a.m. on June 17 the Kids’ Comic-Con will begin, including comic vendors, characters, the Little Miss Relay Pageant and the Kids’ Relay Party for children 12 and under. The first 30 children in the gate on Saturday morning will receive a free cape for the record attempt at 1 p.m.

With exciting activities for children of all ages, the Relay for Life is a family friendly event that everyone will enjoy. Come out and support the communities and see what Relay is all about. You can help put a piece of Ohio in the record book.
