Ministries merge
BOARDMAN
Heart Reach Ministries and Neighborhood Ministries will merge to become Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries.
The merger will be unveiled to the public today at the organizations’ annual fundraising banquet at 6:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. With Neighborhood Ministries’ founding in 1913 and Heart Reach’s founding in 1988, the two organizations have worked in similar capacities in their missions to share God’s love and change children’s lives in the Valley. After years as separate organizations, they decided it was time to join.
As Heart Reach Neighborhood Ministries, the organization will continue to provide aid to children and families through in-school and outside-of-school programs, Bible education, summer food programs, sending kids to camp and expanding family assistance programs.
Teen’s hearing set
YOUNGSTOWN
A hearing will take place March 31 in Mahoning County Juvenile Court to determine if a 14-year-old should be tried as an adult on charges he shot a woman in the face during an attempted robbery.
Attorneys exchanged evidence Thursday in the case of Jhamiere Clarke, who was arraigned last week in the shooting of Ellen Zaban in her Powersdale Avenue driveway in February. Zaban was wounded in the eye and is recovering at a rehabilitation facility. Clarke turned himself in to police two days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. A plea of denial, or the equivalent of a not guilty in adult court, was entered for him at his arraignment.
Clarke is in the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center.
