Possible arson: Police responded to a trash-bin fire at a South Avenue group home, where surveillance video led the program director to believe the fire likely had been intentionally set. Damage came to $650.

Assault: A Youngstown man alleged that after having met a woman at a South Avenue motel, she punched him multiple times in the face and eye. The victim was found with blood on his shirt and a bloody lip, a report showed.

Theft: Police at Boardman Area Court on Market Street took custody of Robert G. Grier, 46, of Southern Boulevard, Youngstown, who was wanted on a theft charge related to a Feb. 2 shoplifting situation in which three T-shirts and one pair each of undergarments and shoes were stolen from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road. Grier also was accused in three additional thefts, including one Jan. 17 at Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive.

Drugs: After a resource officer at Boardman High School reportedly received information regarding a possible drug transaction at the school, a 15-year-old Boardman girl was charged with trafficking in drugs in a school zone, a third-degree felony, and a 15-year-old township boy was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. The girl had a prescription bottle with no label, and the boy alleged she had sold him two pills for $6; also, a straw with possible drug residue was found, a report stated.

Theft: Carl Wallace, 48, who listed addresses on Southern Boulevard in Boardman and Griselda Avenue in Youngstown, was charged with theft and criminal trespassing after a pair of pants, a T-shirt and a vacuum cleaner were stolen from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Also, Wallace was in the big-box store in violation of a previous trespassing warning, a report said.

Weapon: After receiving a call about a gun in an unoccupied car that had its engine on at a Market Street business, authorities charged Nicolas H. Yiannaki of Glenbrook Road, Boardman, with one misdemeanor count of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. While in the business, Yiannaki had left on the seat a loaded revolver for which he had no concealed-carry permit, police said.

Domestic violence: Danielle R. Hiner, 36, of Shadyside Drive, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her father alleged Hiner twice pushed him after the accuser had refused to give her money or allow her to borrow his car.

March 10

Arrest: A vehicle check near Midlothian Boulevard resulted in Irvin E. Caraway’s arrest. Caraway, 37, of Trumbull Court, Youngstown, was wanted on a Campbell warrant accusing him of violating a court order.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered an apartment in the 8200 block of Southern Boulevard, then took a $2,000, 60-inch TV.

Theft: A woman noticed a spare tire had been stolen from her Jeep while she stayed at a South Avenue motel.

Extortion: A Ewing Road man and his brother alleged the Ewing Road man’s son had threatened in a series of calls and text messages to post disparaging material on Facebook about them unless the son was given money.

Arrest: Alphonso V. Davis, 42, was picked up at his Cook Avenue residence on a misdemeanor falsification charge related to a Feb. 24 situation in which police alleged Davis, 42, had provided false information pertaining to an investigation.

Theft: Ralph R. Kistler IV, 28, of South Yorkshire Boulevard, Youngstown, and Christie A. Stevenson, 37, of Mount Vernon Avenue, Youngstown, were charged, accused of stealing a $30 pair of sandals and a $60 women’s ring from Kohl’s. Kistler also was wanted on a theft warrant.

Domestic violence: Authorities arrested Aaron M. Lee Sr., 37, at a Market Street motel on a domestic-violence charge after his girlfriend alleged Lee, of Indianola Road, had raised a fist and threatened her during an argument about their relationship.

Theft: Philip L. Regano, 68, of Hunters Woods Boulevard, Canfield, was charged in the theft of $550 worth of clothing, including five polo shirts, from Kohl’s.

Drugs: Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle at a Market Street motel, where they arrested Matthew D. Anderson, 41, of Jackson Center, Pa., on two drug-abuse counts and one of possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as Kirk D. Snipes, 28, of Sunset Boulevard, Boardman, on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Found was a backpack containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine, a glass pipe from which to smoke methamphetamine and a bottle of Tramadol, a controlled substance that is a potent pain reliever, a report showed.

Arrest: Quintin L. Gilbert, 26, of West Judson Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody on township warrants charging him with domestic violence, being a convicted felon with a firearm and intimidation of a witness. Earlier, his former girlfriend, of Boardman, alleged Gilbert had called repeatedly and threatened to harm and kill her.

Theft: Taylor R. Bracy of Crandall Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with taking an iPhone and two other items from Walmart. Bracy, 23, also was wanted on two Trumbull County warrants charging one count each of theft and identity fraud.

Drugs: After conducting a vehicle check near Mathews Road, officers took into custody Joseph T. Chalfant, 35, on charges of drug abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia. Chalfant, of Applecrest Court, Boardman, had a straw with suspected drug residue and an over-the-counter pill that had been cut in two pieces, a report stated.

Fraud/aggravated menacing: A Colwyn Court man told authorities he received calls and text messages claiming he had won about $96,000 and a car, then was told on three occasions that he needed to send fees that totaled $1,300 to claim the prizes. The victim was threatened with arrest if he failed to make the final $300 payment, he further reported.

Drugs: Officers responded to a complaint of someone panhandling in the 1100 block of Doral Drive, where they arrested David M. Higham of Powers Way, Youngstown, on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and obstructing official business after alleging he had four capped syringes and a pipe for drug use. In addition, Higham, who also was wanted on an Austintown warrant, led police on a foot chase in which an officer slipped and received a cut to his elbow, a report said.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Meadowbrook Avenue led to a charge of operating a vehicle impaired against Mary L. Cardwell of Brainard Drive, Boardman. Cardwell, 53, had a 0.125 blood-alcohol content, which exceeds Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit, a report stated.

March 11

Arrest: Patrick M. Altier, 28, of Cathy Ann Drive, Boardman, was taken into custody after police had conducted a vehicle check near Southern Boulevard. He was wanted on an Austintown warrant.

Aggravated menacing: A man who works for a Pittsburgh-area vehicle-recovery business alleged that while repossessing a car in the 700 block of Nellbert Lane, the irate homeowner pointed a handgun at the accuser, then threatened to strike him with a landscape brick. The employee called 911, though no charges were filed.

Menacing: A worker for a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant said her former husband had called her place of employment six or seven times, including one call that contained an implied threat.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a home in the 200 block of Melrose Avenue, from which $7,000 worth of copper piping was taken.

Identity fraud: An Arden Boulevard man discovered three unauthorized transactions had been made with his credit card that included a $308 online purchase.

Theft by deception: A man told officers that while at a Southern Boulevard big-box store, a man sold him two $25 gasoline gift cards that turned out to be invalid.

Attempted burglary: A man returned to his Glenwood Avenue apartment to discover someone had cracked his door frame, apparently in an effort to break in.

Possible theft: A Salineville woman reported her purse lost or stolen while she was in the 7700 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Misuse of a credit card: A Risher Road woman told police she had received an email about a recent $1,500 money transfer from her credit-card account that had taken place without her consent.

Employee theft: A manager with Steak ‘n’ Shake, 6786 Applewood Blvd., noticed a drawer had come up short, leading her to believe an employee may have stolen the money.

Theft: Someone in the 6900 block of Colleen Drive entered two cars, from which $125, a debit card and various amounts of change were removed.

March 12

Arrest: After pulling over a vehicle near McKay Court, authorities charged Sharron Fields, 45, of Verona, Pa., with operating a vehicle impaired. Fields’ blood-alcohol content was 0.163, a report showed.

Harassment: A Beechwood Drive woman alleged her niece had made and sent a series of such calls and text messages regarding a dispute about a dog.

Misuse of a credit card: An elderly South Avenue man reported a debit card had been removed from his wallet before it was used to make $500 in fraudulent charges.

Domestic violence: Sean M. Harris, 31, of Oakridge Drive, Boardman, was charged after his girlfriend alleged Harris threw her onto a chair and choked the accuser, then punched her several times in the stomach during an argument pertaining to a text message the victim had received.
