Boardman and Canfield choirs perform with YSO

The Canfield High School choirs, under the direction of Kelly Scurich, as well as the Boardman High School choirs, under the direction of Linda Smrek, will be performing with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Randall Fleischer, as they present the “Gloria” by Antonio Vivaldi. The performance is scheduled for March 25 at 8 p.m. at the DeYor Performing Arts Center in Youngstown. Canfield Lions to have fish dinners

Canfield Lions next Fish Dinners for Lent event will be on March 24. Dinner is served from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at A La Cart Catering, located at 429 Lisbon St. in Canfield. Dinners are haddock (baked or fried) or macaroni and cheese or haluski or pierogis. This comes with your choice of one side from french fries, macaroni and cheese, pierogis or haluski. This includes cole slaw or green beans, a roll, a drink and dessert. The price per dinner is $11 and take out is available.

TQGIBT meeting to be March 21

TQGIBT – That Quilt Group I Belong To – welcomes Cora Beck to the March meeting. Beck hand stitched the Best of Show quilt from the 2016 Canfield Fair and will bring several of her quilts to show. Beck is a woman of many talents, including stained glass design and will bring several of those pieces to show as well. Members are also continuing to work on this year’s raffle quilt. The fun begins March 21 at 1 p.m. for those anxious to start sewing, whether stitching a charity quilt or one of your own projects. After a break at 5 p.m. for dinner at Broad Street Diner, the meeting will commence at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. TQGIBT meets at Fair Park in Canfield on the third Tuesday of each month, with some exceptions, and is open to all quilters in the Mahoning Valley, at all skill levels. DIVA Donations dress drive

Looking for something to do with your old prom dresses? Canfield High School is hosting a formal dress drive in cooperation with DIVA Donations. Dresses can be brought to Canfield High School during the month of March. The dress drive is being organized by two National Honor Society members as their service project. DIVA Donations is a 501c3 charity that encourages girls to give back to their community, as well as relieves the financial stress placed on low-income families during the school dance season/special event. Newcomers Club meeting to be March 22

A March luncheon is being planned by Newcomers of Mahoning Valley. They will be meeting on March 22 at Davidson’s Restaurant in Austintown at 11:30 a.m. for greeting and socializing. Someone from the Veteran’s Administration will be speaking about what they do to help the veterans of this country. The members will be donating toiletries and non-perishable food to be given and distributed to needy veterans by the VA. They will also be presenting the nomination of officers for 2017-18 to be voted on next month. Other activities planned for the membership is a birthday luncheon, needlework, book club, movie group and Roundtowners. They welcome anyone who is looking to learn more about the community and interested in forming new friendships. Anyone may join, especially if you’ve had a change in your life and would like to try something that can be stimulating and worthwhile. Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings

Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. This location is handicapped accessible. On Wednesdays, a meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Care - Northside Medical Center in the Medical Education Building, auditorium A, located at 500 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown. GA to meet twice this week

Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Infirmary lecture

The Canfield Historical Society will present a lecture, “The Mahoning County Infirmary” on April 6 at 7 p.m. In 1855 the Mahoning County Infirmary, commonly called The Pogy, was opened for the purpose of caring for the homeless, handicapped, elderly and poor citizens of the county. The property was located on a large farm on Herbert Road where the Stonebridge housing development is located today. The original building was destroyed by fire and replaced by a compound of structures in 1898. This free lecture is open to anyone who would like to attend. The lecture takes place at the Canfield Historical Society Bond House, located at 44 West Main Street in Canfield, across from the Canfield library. No registration is necessary. Lego mindstorms robots - part 1

Discover how to build, program and test Lego Mindstorms Robots at the Canfield library on March 25 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Bring a packed lunch. Children will work through the stages of building and programming the robots with a break to eat. This event is for grades 3-7. Call 330-744-8636 to register by March 24. Space is limited.

Take a guess

Guess the number of items in the jar at the Canfield library during library hours in March. Closest guess wins a small prize. This event is for the family.

Tween techniques

Tweens (ages 9-12) are ready to learn the basics of art theory and explore various mediums and textures at the Canfield library on March 20 at 3:30 p.m. Using watercolors, students will explore color mixing by overlapping various colored hues to create a color work of art. Registration is needed. There is a limit of 12 students.

Coloring for grown-ups

Join the Canfield library on March 20 at 10 a.m. and tap into your creative side with the newest relaxation craze: coloring for grown-ups. Colored pencils and markers will be provided along with intricate abstract and themed design sheets. This program is for teens and adults only.

DIY spice blend: Chai Tea edition

Interested in making your own Chai Tea? Join the Canfield library on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. and learn how to make this spice blend and take home some as well. Bring your own container with you. Knitting Guild spring brunch to be March 25

The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will host a spring brunch for members and their guests. The event will take place on March 25 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. The cost for tickets is $10 for members of the Guild and $15 for their guests. Tickets can be purchased at the next scheduled March meeting or by sending a check made out to WRKG at P.O. Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. LDR to host reverse raffle

Legacy Dog Rescue of Ohio (LDR) will host it’s first reverse raffle on April 1 at Avion on the Lake, located at 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for games, giveaways and a huge basket auction. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the reverse raffle to follow. The grand prize is $1,200. Tickets are $55 for two dinners and a chance to win the grand prize. One hundred tickets will be sold. Chair yoga

Chair yoga is sponsored by the Friends of PLYMC. Pay as you attend at $10 per class. You should dress comfortably. Class will meet the first Friday of every month at the Canfield library at 10 a.m. This class is for adults.
