Price, Harris among All-Ohio selections

Ursuline’s Harris makes second team

Staff report

Howland’s Sara Price was the lone Mahoning Valley girls basketball player to be named first-team All-Ohio as the Associated Press released its Division II and III teams Tuesday.

Price averaged 21 points as the Tigers had a 19-6 record this season. The Division II first-teamer led the Tigers to the district semifinals against Southeast. Howland lost that game, 61-53, but Price scored 31 points, grabbed six rebounds and made three blocks.

Price will play for Ball State University and leaves Howland as the program’s all-time leading scorer at just under 2,000 points.

Ursuline sophomore Dayshanette Harris earned second-team honors in D-III. She was the area’s leading scorer, averaging 27.6 points per game.

Harris has already surpassed 1,000 points for her career as the Irish went 13-11. Despite the nearly ,500 record, the Irish won a district title before falling to Garrettsville Garfield, 60-50, in the regional semifinals.

Three players from around the Valley were named third-teamers.

Niles senior Dakota Naples averaged 24 points to make the D- II third team.

Also a third-team selection in D-II is Poland junior Bella Gajdos, who averaged 15.6 points this year.

Lisbon senior Karlee Pezzano earned D-III third-team honors after averaging 19.3 points.

The All-Ohio Division I team and Ms. Basketball winner will be announced today.
