Boardman police investigating shooting of man after South Avenue argument

Staff report

BOARDMAN

A township man who told police he was shot in the chest by an unidentified suspect was actually shot by a woman with whom he lives, police said.

Police were called to the Chelsea Court apartments on South Avenue about 4 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a shooting. There, the victim reported he had been shot by a stranger while taking out the garbage.

Further investigation revealed, however, the shooting actually stemmed from a domestic altercation.

Police said the pair gave conflicting stories about the cause of the argument, but both confirmed they had been arguing and that the woman had shot him.

Tena Garver, 47, is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence. She was in the Mahoning County jail late Tuesday.

Police said she shot the victim with a .22-caliber rifle. He reportedly was in stable condition as of late Tuesday afternoon.

Police continue investigating the shooting.
