DEA training

HERMITAGE, PA.

Gary Tuggle, special agent in charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Philadelphia Field Division, said Monday the DEA will train members of the Hermitage Police Department on the use of naloxone that was purchased for them through funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs.

In 2015, 3,383 people died from a drug-related overdose in Pennsylvania – 18 in Mercer County. Heroin and the presence of at least one synthetic opioid were reported in 81 percent of these deaths. Naloxone is a medication used to reverse the effects of a known or suspected overdose from prescription and illegal opioids.

Expired fire gear

AUSTINTOWN

The township trustees approved donating expired fire gear to the Metro Arson Task Force. Fire Chief Andrew Frost told trustees Monday night the National Fire Protection Association imposes a 10-year limit on turnout gear, and if someone were to be injured using it after that the township would be held liable.

The arson task force does not fight fires, so liability will not be an issue. The gear would otherwise be destroyed, Frost said.

In other business, the board approved transferring a liquor license to El Cowboy restaurant at 1739 S. Raccoon Road. The license previously belonged to Lucianno’s Restaurant and Banquet Center.

New look for water bill

WARREN

City water customers will notice a new design and comparison of water usage on their bills beginning in April.

The city water department is in the process of transitioning to a new software program that organizes customer information, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

When the city goes completely online with the new system on April 10, it also will begin mailing out bills in a new format.

“We redesigned in the effort to make it easier to understand hopefully for the customers,” said Director of Utilities Franco Lucarelli.

The bill will highlight the previous month’s consumption rate and the rate for the current billing period side by side so customers can compare usage.

Lucarelli also hopes it can signal potential problems to customers who may have leaks within their home within a timely period.
