AUCTIONS
Pawz 2 Adopt and Together Journey are hosting a quarter auction Thursday at Youngstown Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Austintown. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 6. All proceeds go to rescue homeless dogs and to help disabled people acquire service dogs. There will be more than 80 prizes and door prizes. Tickets are $5 and include a bidding paddle, a soft drink, a light snack and a door prize ticket. Pizza will be $1 per slice. CRAFT SHOWS
Canfield Lions Club will host it’s annual Spring Craft, Antique and Quilt Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1 at Canfield High School, 100 Cardinal Drive. There will be more than 100 vendors, basket auction, raffle and hot food available. Admission and parking are free. The club serves the community by feeding the hungry, through disaster relief, charitable donations and scholarships to Canfield High School. Its primary focus is the eye program in the schools and at the county fair. Eye exams, glasses, and eye care for those less fortunate also are provided.
FESTIVALS
Simply Slavic Festival organizers are seeking authentic Slavic retail, crafts, fine arts and food vendors for its 7th annual Simply Slavic Festival from noon to 11 p.m. June 17 on Federal Plaza East, downtown Youngstown. There is space for 15 food vendors and 10 marketplace vendors. Openings will be filled according to timing of request and the need to maintain variety of options for the booths. The confirmation deadline for previous vendors is April 15. Applications from new vendors will be accepted after this date, but questions are welcome at any time. NIGHTS AT THE RACES
Newton Falls VFW Post 3332, 433 Arlington Road, will host a night at the races Saturday. Admission is $25 and includes food and two drinks. There also will be a DJ and dancing. VFW District 8 auxiliary will provide baskets for an auction. For information call Ray Schafer at 330-547-7722.
RAFFLES
Girard Multi-Generational Center, 443 Trumbull Ave., is hosting two raffles for chances to win a 50-inch flat screen LED television and a $225 prepaid Visa gift card. Tickets are $5 and winners will be announced at the annual Cars are the Stars 3 benefit classic car show set for June 3 (rain date June 10). Proceeds will benefit the center. SALES
Austintown Night Out committee is hosting a trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 20 at Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road. Vendor spaces are $10 each and the event will be outside regardless of the weather. Vendors are welcome to take canopies. Austintown Community Church Preschool Childcare Center will host its annual trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the youth auditorium of the education wing of the church, 242 S. Canfield-Niles Road. Table rentals are available by calling the preschool office at 330-793-1843. There will be raffle baskets, and drawings will take place at 12:45. Winners do not need to be present. Snacks, light lunch items and beverages will be available for purchase. Proceeds will go to developmentally appropriate resources for the children.
Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothing for the entire family. March specials include a winter clearance on everything in the shop excluding prom dresses and yellow tickets, spring items. All clearance items will be $1. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays.
Poland Lions are hosting a Treasures of the Trunk sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10 at Poland Seminary High School stadium parking lot. Vendors are being sought for this one-day sale from the trunk of your car. Crafters, home goods, furniture, toys, specialty items and garage sale items are welcome. There are 100 spaces. Wilmington Township Mercer County Civic League Quilters will offer its 15th quilt show and sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Municipal Building, 35 Auction Road, New Wilmington, Pa. Featured this year will be Gwen Isaac’s quilts. Isaac is from Pulaski and has been quilting for more than 40 years. Admission is $2 and refreshments will be available. A king-size cross-stitch quilt will be raffled at the annual garage sale May 13. Tickets may be purchased for $1 each, or six tickets for $5. Proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. TRIPS
Alexander Hamilton/Idora Park Carousel trip planned for July 18 through 20. See where Hamilton lived, dueled, dined and died, and ride the Idora Park Carousel. Louisville, Ky., trip is being hosted by St. Paul Church of Salem May 19 and 20. The cost is $239 per person and includes bus transportation, a double room, tickets to the Kentucky Derby Museum, a walking tour of Churchill Downs Racetrack, and a buffet dinner at Derby Dinner Playhouse followed by the play “Sister Act.” A $75 deposit is due with reservations by Thursday, and the remaining amount is due by April 6.
