Severe winter weather is expected to hit the Mahoning Valley this afternoon or evening.

According to meteorologist Candace Monacelli of 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, wet snow will continue overnight and into Tuesday, possibly leaving several inches of snow on the ground.

Monacelli said travel challenges and school adjustments are expected Tuesday as snow showers continue changing to lake-effect snow.

Positive parenting seminar tonight

As part of the Positive Parenting Program, Alta Behavioral Healthcare will present a free seminar on the “Power of Positive Parenting” for parents of kids up to age 12 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Newport Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, 3730 Market St.

Presenting the seminar is Marci Masters, a master trainer and early childhood mental-health consultant for Alta Behavioral Healthcare. The Triple P program can help parents encourage positive behavior in their children; deal with problem behavior; become confident as a parent; be realistic about parenting; and take care of themselves.

Remove decorations

Officials at Belmont Park Cemetery, 3346 Belmont Ave., are requesting all artificial decorations be retrieved from the grounds by Friday.
