The Vindicator will run a listing of area services that are open to the public in observance of Palm Sunday, April 9; Holy Thursday, April 13; Good Friday, April 14; Holy Saturday, April 15; and Easter, April 16.
The deadline to submit information is 5 p.m. March 28. Publication will be April 1.
Information should include the denomination and name of the church, address, city or suburb, the day, time, type of service, your name and a phone number for verification.

Soup luncheon planned

The women of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 420 Clearmount Drive, will host a light lunch of homemade soup, bread, beverage and homemade dessert immediately after the noon Wednesday Lenten services. There also will be soup for sale at $6 per quart. A free-will offering will be taken during the service.

Lenten speaker set

St. Edward Catholic Church, 240 Tod Lane, will host a Lenten speaker program beginning at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The 21/2-hour program includes Mass, a light Lenten supper and speaker Peter Schafer. The program is titled “The People of God Reach Out: The New Evangelization” and is about empowering the people in the pews to reach out to those who used to be in the pews or who have never been in the pews. A free-will offering will be accepted.
Poet to conduct reading

Prominent black poet Tim Seibles will conduct a public reading at the annual ACTION fellowship breakfast between 9:30 and 11 a.m. March 28 at St. Edward Catholic Church, 240 Tod Lane.

Torah studies are offered for Christians

The Jewish/Christian Studies Youngstown Ohio and the B’nai B’rith Guardian of the Menorah invite the public to Torah Studies for Christians with Rabbi Saul Oresky and Rev. George Balasko beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 2067 Evergreen St.
This Bible education series is an opportunity for Christians to reflect on the Scriptures under the guidance of a rabbi. The event will help participants to deepen their appreciation of a Torah tradition that is at the core of Jewish life, which formed Jesus as a Jew, and which is the root of the biblical heritage as Christians.

St. Patrick’s Day Mass

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will host a St. Patrick’s Day Mass and luncheon at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The Mass is open to the public, however, tickets are required for the luncheon at the cost of $25 each.

Children’s fair planned

Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will host a children’s fair. The two-hour event will begin at 11 a.m. next Saturday and will include games, prizes and tickets for 25 cents. Lunch also will be available at a reasonable price.
St. Anne Church celebrates its 50th

St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The celebration begins at 9:30 a.m. next Sunday with the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley doing a presentation, followed by Divine Liturgy.
St. Anne Church will be collecting donations for the Rescue Mission. Items needed: cough drops, cough medicine, acetaminophen, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, aerosol deodorant for men and women, peanut butter, sugar, individually wrapped snack crackers/cakes and cans of chicken noodle soup.
Collection containers are at the church, 4310 Kirk Road, and the community is invited to drop off donations during these times: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, 8 to 11 a.m. Sundays, and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays. For information, contact Father Lubomyr Zhybak at 330-744-5820.
Mission Day Program

‘What’s Next’ retreat

The “What Next” retreat is for young adults in their 20s and 30s and will take place at Bethany Retreat Center, 13000 Auburn Road. It starts at 8:30 a.m. March 25 and concludes March 26. Mass is included in the retreat.

The Total Praise Choir of The Alpha & Omega First Baptist Church, 3120 Winton Ave., will host its annual musical celebration at 4 p.m. March 26.
