Audition for local play
The Victorian Players will host auditions for “Clue, the Musical” on March 12 at 5 p.m. at the theatre, located at 702 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown. Note: this is a change in time from what was originally announced. Auditioners are asked to come prepared to sing a refrain from a show tune; bring sheet music. Dress comfortably for dance movement. Canfield Lions fish dinners for Lent
Canfield Lions next Fish Dinners for Lent will be on March 17. Dinner is served from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at A La Cart Catering, located at 429 Lisbon St. in Canfield. Dinners are Haddock (baked or fried) or macaroni and cheese or haluski or pierogis. You will have your choice of one side from french fries, macaroni and cheese, pierogis or haluski. Dinner includes cole slaw or green beans, roll, drink and dessert. The price is $11. Take out is available.
Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings
Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Primary Care open house to be March 13
Primary Care, Internal Medicine physicians Manish Joshi M.D. and Basem Doss, M.D. are hosting a community open house to celebrate the grand opening of their Canfield office on March 13 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Attendees will meet Dr. Joshi and Dr. Doss, as well as their staff and tour the new office space. Participants can also choose to take part in free blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) screenings and enjoy refreshments. Supper at the corner
This supper is free as a community outreach of the church and open to all each month. This month will take place on March 16 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Smith Corners United Methodist Church. Donations will be accepted to continue this program.
Free Cone Day at DQ
March 20 from 4-7 p.m. is Free Cone Day at Dairy Queen. Come celebrate spring at the DQ. Consider making a small donation to Akron Children’s Hospital, Boardman Campus, the chosen charity of this event. Participating stores include the Cornersburg DQ, located at 3555 S. Meridian Road in Youngtown.
Infirmary lecture
The Canfield Historical Society will present a lecture, “The Mahoning County Infirmary” on April 6 at 7 p.m. In 1855 the Mahoning County Infirmary, commonly called The Pogy, was opened for the purpose of caring for the homeless, handicapped, elderly and poor citizens of the county. The property was located on a large farm on Herbert Road where the Stonebridge housing development is located today. The original building was destroyed by fire and replaced by a compound of structures in 1898. This free lecture is open to anyone who would like to attend. The lecture takes place at the Canfield Historical Society Bond House, located at 44 West Main Street in Canfield, across from the Canfield library. No registration is necessary. White House Weekend to be March 18 and 19
White House Fruit Farm of Canfield will present its annual “White House Weekend” celebration on March 18 and 19. This popular event features a unique blend of fun and food that the entire family can enjoy. Visitors will be able to sample some fabulous specialties from Ohio food vendors as well as many of the farm’s own offerings including sausage, sauces, hot peppers, coffees, teas, local beef snacks, dressings, mustards, baked goods and more. Additionally, a large selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, deli and bakery items and locally produced maple syrup will be featured. New for this year will be horse-drawn sleigh rides through the orchards offered by May Farm during select hours. White House’s 10,000-square-foot farm market located 10 minutes south of Canfield on Route 62. Hours of the event are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on March 18, and from 12-4 p.m. on March 19.
Kitting Guild meeting to be March 14
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will meet March 14 at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. The evenings program will be a discussion on reading charts. Bring a small amount of any smooth, light-colored yarn and appropriate needles for knitting flat. The common symbols for charts, how to follow a chart and practicing knitting from charts will be discussed. A knit along for March and April will be announced. To participate, bring 315 yards of chunky or super-bulky yarn, size 15 US knitting needles, three buttons to coordinate with your yarn size 1 1/2 inch and a 20 inch pillow form. Solid or tonal colors of yarn are suggested. The pattern will be distributed at the March meeting or distributed how you receive your CABLE-GRAM. ABWA Woman of the Year event March 14
The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will celebrate its annual Woman of the Year event on March 14 at Rachel’s Restaurant, located at 54 Westchester Drive in Austintown. A social event will take place from 6-6:30 p.m. when the new Woman of the Year will be crowned and the family and friends of this member will join for dinner. The menu is mixed garden salad, vegetable medley, oven roasted potatoes, baked chicken Italiano, roasted pork loin with Robert sauce and dessert. Pi Day Trail Run to be March 18
The Academy of the Arts students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host the first PI Day Trail Run Challenge on the school campus on March 18. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will kick off at 10 a.m. The cost is $25 if you register before and $30 the day of the race. T-Shirts are guaranteed to all participants pre-registered by March 4 and a free pie will be given to every runner that finishes. Family story time - birthday celebration

Friendly Squares monthly dance
The Niles Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on March 11 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Dress is casual and there is a $6 donation per person at the door. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Bird Cage gain another local partnership
The Bird Cage at Canfield High School has teamed up with another local business. The Bird Cage is a spirit store that is fully operated by students in the Introduction to Business class in cooperation with Junior Achievement. The Bird Cage recently started a partnership with Simply Scarves…And Such to feature unique boutique items such as scarves, jewelry and accessories with Cardinal flair. Vicki McGee, owner, is a volunteer Junior Achievement Advisor to the store. Simply Scarves...And Such is located in Salem, Columbiana and Austintown. The school store also features items from Jones and Associates Embroidery located in Austintown. The store is open daily before school.
Gotta move story time
Join the Canfield library every Wednesday in March at 10 and 11:30 a.m. for a variety of musical and movement activities that appeal to the “young and restless,” stimulate brain development and motivate language learning. Adults and children, get ready to act out stories and rhymes, sing and dance, talk and play. This event is for children ages 2-5 who are accompanied by a caregiver.

Lego mindstorms robots - part 1
Discover how to build, program and test Lego Mindstorms Robots at the Canfield library on March 25 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Bring a packed lunch. Tween techniques
Tweens (ages 9-12) are ready to learn the basics of art theory and explore various mediums and textures at the Canfield library on March 20 at 3:30 p.m. Using watercolors, students will explore color mixing by overlapping various colored hues to create a color work of art. Registration is needed. There is a limit of 12 students.
Canfield Teen Advisory Board
Join the Canfield library’s Teen Advisory Board (TAB) and get to know the new Canfield library, take a look at some new teen books and share ideas on March 14 at 3 p.m. Snacks will be provided. This event is for teens in grades 7-12.
Coloring for grown-ups
Join the Canfield library on March 20 at 10 a.m. and tap into your creative side with the newest relaxation craze: coloring for grown-ups. Colored pencils and markers will be provided along with intricate abstract and themed design sheets. This program is for teens and adults only.
DIY spice blend: Chai Tea edition
Interested in making your own Chai Tea? Join the Canfield library on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. and learn how to make this spice blend and take home some as well. Bring your own container with you. The Bird Cage at Canfield High School is the featured business at Home Savings Bank in Canfield. The Bird Cage is a spirit store that is fully operated by students in the Introduction to Business class in cooperation with Junior Achievement. The Home Savings Bank, located at 29 North Broad Street, has an area with items from the store on sale. Patrons may stop in during business hours to support the class.
Knitting Guild spring brunch to be March 25
The Western Reserve Knitting Guild will host a spring brunch for members and their guests. The event will take place on March 25 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Rotary Community Building in Fair Park in Canfield. The cost for tickets is $10 for members of the Guild and $15 for their guests. Tickets can be purchased at the next scheduled March meeting or by sending a check made out to WRKG at P.O. Gathering Place event to be March 13
There will be a Gathering Place event at Lord of Life Church on March 13 at 11 a.m. This is a free community outreach social program offered to all senior citizens that is held on the second Monday of the month every month. Different games and activities are also offered each month. This month’s program will include Karen Kannal speaking about human trafficking. Lunch will be provided by the Woodlands. Junior Women’s League hosts “Step Back in Thyme Tea”
The GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host a “Step Back in Thyme Tea” that will benefit Mahoning County Women And Children’s Shelters. The “Step Back in Thyme Tea” will take place at The Poland Presbyterian Church, located at 2 Poland Manor Dr. in Poland, on March 11 at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. The tea includes lunch, special herbal teas, a basket auction and more. Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17
The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society. LDR to host reverse raffle
Legacy Dog Rescue of Ohio (LDR) will host it’s first reverse raffle on April 1 at Avion on the Lake, located at 2177 W. Western Reserve Road in Canfield. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for games, giveaways and a huge basket auction. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the reverse raffle to follow. The grand prize is $1,200.
