Audition for local play

The Victorian Players will host auditions for “Clue, the Musical” on March 12 at 5 p.m. at the theatre, located at 702 Mahoning Ave. in Youngstown. Note: this is a change in time from what was originally announced. Auditioners are asked to come prepared to sing a refrain from a show tune; bring sheet music. Dress comfortably for dance movement. Needed are four men and four women who can play ages 20-60. Performance dates are May 19-28. Call 330-533-8789 with questions or to arrange a different time. Overeaters Anonymous to have local meetings

Overeaters Anonymous is offering meetings at several local locations and on a variety of days. On Saturdays at 10 a.m., there will be a meeting at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in the Church Hall, Room 2, located at 4453 Warren-Sharon Road in Vienna, Ohio. This location is handicapped accessible. On Sundays at 7 p.m., there will be a meeting at Shenango Presbyterian Church, located at 3144 Wilmington Road (Route 18) in New Castle, Pa. This location is handicapped accessible. On Mondays, a meeting will take place at 1 p.m. at the Girard Multigenerational Center, located at 443 Trumbull Avenue in Girard. This location is handicapped accessible. On Wednesdays, a meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Valley Care - Northside Medical Center in the Medical Education Building, auditorium A, located at 500 Gypsy Lane in Youngstown. This location is handicapped accessible. On Thursdays at 6 p.m., a meeting will take place in Faith Chapel Fellowship Church, located at 511 E. Pershing St. in Salem, while at 7:30 p.m. a meeting will take place at New Life Lutheran Church, located at 1181 Churchill-Hubbard Road in Youngstown. GA to meet twice this week

Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. It’s all about yarn

Bring in your crochet, knitting, plastic canvas or “anything with yarn” project and learn from one another at the Boardman library on March 17 at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring all yarn UFOs (unfinished objects).

Using Genealogy databases and websites

Ancestry.com is not the only resource of note. You will examine other essential tools and the Genealogy and Local History librarian will show you how to connect to these online resources from home in three easy steps at the Boardman library on March 28 at 6:30 p.m. Registration for all programs is required. ABWA Woman of the Year event March 14

The Mill Creek Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will celebrate its annual Woman of the Year event on March 14 at Rachel’s Restaurant, located at 54 Westchester Drive in Austintown. A social event will take place from 6-6:30 p.m. when the new Woman of the Year will be crowned and the family and friends of this member will join for dinner. The menu is mixed garden salad, vegetable medley, oven roasted potatoes, baked chicken Italiano, roasted pork loin with Robert sauce and dessert. The speaker for the evening is Randi Russell, Unit Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown. The organization is preparing for its annual basket raffle at the Ursuline Education Center on Shields Road on April 30. Watch for more information on this event to come in the coming months.

‘I Read YA’ book club

This club is for adult fans of Young Adult literature from ages 18-118. Talk about why you like YA. Read and discuss at the Boardman library on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. This month they will be discussing “You in Five Acts” by Una LaMarche. This is for adults.

Using the ancestry database

In this program the Genealogy and Local History librarian will demonstrate the power of the ancestry database and show how it can be used effectively for genealogical research at the Boardman library on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. This is perhaps the ultimate genealogy resource, offering access to all available U.S. census images and indexes, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, military records, international records and more. Reader’s Choice book club

They will discuss “The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend” by Katarina Bivald on March 13 at the Boardman library at 7 p.m. They will preview April’s book, “The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper” by Phaedra Patrick. Share your favorite books and find out what new titles are being published. This is for adults.

Lego my library

Meet and enjoy creating Lego designs at the Boardman library on March 11 at 10 a.m. Legos will be provided. This event is for children, ages 6 and up.

Pi Day Trail Run to be March 18

The Academy of the Arts students at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center will host the first PI Day Trail Run Challenge on the school campus on March 18. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the race will kick off at 10 a.m. The cost is $25 if you register before and $30 the day of the race. T-Shirts are guaranteed to all participants pre-registered by March 4 and a free pie will be given to every runner that finishes. Go fly a kite

March is kite weather, so come celebrate with stories and a kite craft that will be flown on the outdoor patio at the Boardman library on March 14 at 7 p.m. This is a family activity for children of all ages. Preschoolers must attend with an adult. This is a one-hour program will take place indoors if it is raining.

Friendly Squares monthly dance

The Niles Friendly Squares will host their monthly square dance on March 11 from 7:30-10 p.m. at the Niles SCOPE Center, located at 14 E. State St. in Niles. Dress is casual and there is a $6 donation per person at the door. This will be a high/low dance with alternating tips for new dancers currently taking lessons and tips for more experienced dancers. Night Owl

An evening story time for children ages 3-5 at the Boardman library on March 21 and 28 at 7 p.m. Each child must be accompanied by an adult in this 30-minute program featuring finger plays, stories and a craft activity.

Junior Women’s League hosts “Step Back in Thyme Tea”

The GFWC Ohio Boardman-Poland Junior Women’s League will host a “Step Back in Thyme Tea” that will benefit Mahoning County Women And Children’s Shelters. The “Step Back in Thyme Tea” will take place at The Poland Presbyterian Church, located at 2 Poland Manor Dr. in Poland, on March 11 at 1 p.m. The cost is $20 per person. The tea includes lunch, special herbal teas, a basket auction and more. Ellen Speicher will present “English Gardens” - A pictorial visit to several spectacular gardens in England along with scenes from the world-famous Chelsea Flower Show. Pink Ribbon Golf Classic to be July 17

The annual Pink Ribbon Golf Classic will take place at Avalon Lakes Golf and Country Club on July 17. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the American Cancer Society.
