YOUNGSTOWN

Remember “Rock Me Amadeus”? How about “Groove Is in the Heart”?

Those were songs by one-hit wonders.

They’re also part of the soundtrack to Saturday’s performances by Ballet Western Reserve.

The performances will be the highlight of Building Art – BWR’s annual fundraiser, which is appropriately titled “One-Hit Wonders” this year.

BWR company and upper-level dancers will dance in jazz, tap and ballet style to Falco’s “Rock Me Amadeus,” Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is in the Heart” and other stand-alone hits, including:

“Judy in Disguise” by John Fred and His Playboy Band.

“Black Velvet” by Alannah Myles.

“500 Miles” by the Proclaimers.

“Axel F” by Harold Faltermeyer from the film “Beverly Hills Cop.”

Building Art will start at 7 p.m., with the dance performances at 7:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

In between, guests can tour the Morley Building, 218 W. Boardman St., home of BWR, while sampling complimentary wine and cheese, courtesy of Rulli Bros. markets, and craft beer from Platform Brewing Co.; and listening to live music by Courtney Waskin, Jimmy Mitrega and Roger Lewis, and Rachele Joy.

James McClellan will be the master of ceremonies of the event, which will include a “dinner for a year” raffle and an assortment of restaurant gift cards.

There also will be art on display and for sale by local artists and organizations, including Soap Gallery, Gary Taneri, Barbara Rochow, the Purple Cat and Sara Gardner Ciccarelli.

All money raised will go toward maintaining the Morley Building.

“We have had some flooding in the past year [that caused damage], and we also need new windows,” said BWR director Sabrina Shapiro.

Tickets are $25 for adults if purchased by Friday ($30 at the door), and $15 for students. Call 330-744-1934.

Free parking, with security guard, will be provided.
