Meals for Members

YOUNGSTOWN

Sam’s Club has launched the “Meals from Members” campaign to support Feeding America, the largest hunger-relief and food rescue organization in the U.S.

The nationwide campaign will help fight hunger by securing 2.5 million meals on behalf of local community Feeding America food banks, such as Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, through donations made with support from Sam’s Club members.

Through March 31, there are two ways for Mahoning Valley Sam’s Club members to give back to Second Harvest: purchase qualifying items from participating supplier partners in Sam’s Club and go online to route the meals to the local food bank, or text ‘Meals’ to 35350 and enter their ZIP code to have a donation made to their local food bank. Participants can text a donation from their phone number one time.

Soup City Designs, a family-owned apparel business, is expanding and opening its first retail location in Boardman.

Crop insurance

COLUMBUS

Ohio Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor is reminding the state’s farmers the deadline to purchase or modify certain insurance coverage for spring-planted crops is Tuesday.

Federally subsidized, multiple-peril crop insurance covers certain weather, pest and revenue related losses. This coverage is dependent on crop establishment and reporting dates determined by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency that farmers must meet.

State-regulated policies such as for damage caused by hail and fire are also available. Many of them have crop establishment and reporting requirements as well. Ohio farmers can contact the Ohio Department of Insurance at 800-686-1526 or visit www.insurance.ohio.gov.

Pension crisis

WASHINGTON

U.S. Reps. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, and Marcy Kaptur of Toledo, D-9th, on Tuesday led 21 lawmakers in urging President Donald Trump to act on America’s multiemployer-pension crisis. The letter tasks the president to work with Congress to repeal the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act in favor of a more equitable solution. MPRA could force 1.5 million retirees to face the threat of reduced retirement benefits.
