Trumbull Business College to close

WARREN

The Trumbull Business College, 3200 Ridge Road, one of the area’s oldest business colleges, established in 1972, will close at the end of this month.

The Accrediting Council of Independent Colleges served as the accreditor for the school. ACICS was denied its motion for a preliminary injunction to halt implementation of the Dec. 12 decision by the Department of Education to withdraw ACICS’s recognition as a nationally recognized accreditation agency Feb. 21.

Staff, faculty and students were notified all viable options to remain operational have been discussed, however the decision has been made the college must close. Students are being referred to Kent State Trumbull Campus and ETI in Niles for information regarding those options. Other local colleges may also be of assistance.

Enrolled students will be able to complete the quarter at Trumbull Business College, which will end after finals week March 22. The closure will affect more than 80 students.

Gas prices up

COLUMBUS

Gas prices around Ohio have increased again over the past week.

Ohio’s average for regular fuel was about $2.23 per gallon in Monday’s survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and WEX Inc. That’s a dime more than the state average last week and well above the average of $1.87 at this time last year.

The national average was $2.31 on Monday, up from $2.29 a week earlier and $1.81 a year ago.

Prom dress giveaway

LaFrance Cleaners recently announced it has accepted the role of corporate sponsor of the Krysten’s Kloset annual prom dress drive and giveaway Saturday and Sunday at Roosevelt Gymnasium, 110 Orchard Ave.

In addition to financial support, the 72-year-old company will provide dry cleaning and minor repair of formal wear for the project.

LaFrance will be accepting donations at its Boardman, Poland and headquarters location on Glenwood Avenue from now through May.

Cruze winner

CLEVELAND

Richard Campbell of Cleveland, a retired policeman, took home a Lords-town-built 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Premier on Sunday from the Cleveland Auto Show. The Cruze was the official giveaway vehicle and grand prize of the Cleveland Auto Show.

Nine finalists were invited back to the show Sunday and given a key. Campbell’s key opened the door of the 2017 Cruze Premier, and he was given ownership of the vehicle as the grand prize of the 2017 auto show. The vehicle was provided by Chevrolet and the Chevy Network.
