Guests came to the Poland library on Feb. 9 to make their own sushi out of different types of candy.

Teens in seventh- through twelfth-grade were invited to the library to create sushi that was a little different than what most people order at a sushi restaurant. There was a variety of candy laid out on the table for the guests to choose from. Librarian Annette Ahrens printed out pictures of candy sushi for the teens to use as a reference if they wanted.

There was licorice and Rice Krispy Treats that acted as the rice, gummy worms and fish, fruit roll ups and many more kinds of candy to choose from. One of the teens, Scarlett, made several different sushi rolls out of all the candy.

Some of the sushi looked like the pictures on the paper, while other sushi was created from the minds of the guests. Take out containers were provided to take home the sushi if they weren’t eaten all during the program.

Ahrens is looking into creating a candy science program for guests in the future.
