Poland Seminary High School students showcased their talents during the annual talent show on Feb. 6.
Many students sang, played an instrument and danced to show others what they enjoy doing. The talent show was under the direction of Dana Vanesky, a Poland schools instructor.
The audience could buy raffle tickets to enter for a chance to win a gift card. During the breaks between performances, names were drawn and the winners could come up to the stage and pick what gift card they wanted.
Admission was $5 and the proceeds went to the PTA to help host other programs like this throughout the school year.
One student, Christin Murcko, performed a dance by the band One Direction. Whenever she did a special trick the audience would cheer her on and her face lit up with happiness. When she finished her dance, the audience gave her a standing ovation as she walked off stage with a giant smile on her face.
As a special final performance, student Eric Quimby performed a Katy Perry song. As he wore sunglasses and walked around the stage singing, some of the students joined in by singing and clapping which helped the student with his performance. When the song was over, he also received a standing ovation and a loud applause from the audience.
PSHS teacher Scott Suchora formed a band with some of his students and named the band Uncle Father. The band’s performance was one of the favorites among the audience. While performing their last song, “Puff the Magic Dragon,” Suchora came out with his daughter in dinosaur costumes.
The talent show gives the students an opportunity to be creative and show off their talents they might not otherwise have the chance to.
