William Hansen of the South Side is the winner of The Vindicator’s Best of Film contest for 2017.
He correctly picked 16 out of the 21 Oscar Award categories, which were given out Sunday in Los Angeles.
Out of the 193 entries that were received in the contest, Hansen was the only person to get 16 right. His prize is a $200 gift card for Rulli’s markets.
Because several contestants had 15 correct, the second- and third-place winners were selected in a drawing, in accordance with contest rules.
Second place went to Kym Baker of Canfield, and third place went to Sandy Opsitnik of Boardman. They will receive, respectively, $100 and $50 Rulli’s gift cards.
It was not an easy year to pick the Oscars. Winners of The Vindicator contest in recent years missed fewer categories.
The mix-up at the end of Sunday’s Oscars ceremony overshadowed the event, with the award for the top category of Best Picture erroneously being given to “La La Land” before it was revealed that “Moonlight” was the actual winner.
But Hansen had it right al along on his winning ballot.
This is the second time that Hansen, an employee of Bud’s Sign Shop of Youngstown, won the Best of Film contest. The first time was in 2007.
