CANFIELD

A registered sex offender is accused of trying to break into homes in the Stonebridge residential area northeast of Canfield High School.

On Friday, Canfield police received reports that someone was pulling mail out of mailboxes and using that as an excuse to go up to doors to determine whether people were home.

If they were home, he would say the mail was lying in the street. If they weren’t, he would try to break into the homes.

The police found fingerprints on a damaged window, which matched Matthew Krivanek, 26, of Timber Run Court.

Krivanek is a registered sex offender who was convicted of pandering obscenity in 2014.

“Considering his past, we took this case as a priority, and we were able to get it solved in a couple days,” said Canfield Detective Brian McGivern.

Krivanek had called the Canfield police Friday morning to report suspicious males in the neighborhood, McGivern said.

A warrant was issued for Krivanek on Wednesday. He faces charges on two counts of attempted burglary and one count of criminal trespass.
